I think this deserves it's own thread for budding web site developers.

CompUSA has it and for once - at least my local CUSA had plenty. The ad runs through Saturday (7/21).

It is regularly $99.99-$10 Instant=$89.99-$90MIR=FREE. This is not an "upgrade" rebate but a full Mfr. main in rebate. However, you must register it to get the rebate.

Actually, it seems to be a pretty nice web design program package Check out their site. Some good reviews also.

I needed it to "cash in" a $100 CUSA GC (from the HP Camera and Printer bundle for $70 after MIR and GC) and thought I'd just sell it for some extra money.

However, looking through the manual and program - it's a KEEPER. I'd say (just from looking at it today) it rivals FP2000 (and might be easier to use).

FP200 sucks!

I don't care what version it is FP sucks...

As far as Fusion goes got friends who love it but I don't care for it much. Like Macromedia Dreamweaver and Adobe GoLive much better. I use Adobe GoLive all the time it is a great program.

I totally agree with your assessment of Dreamweaver and GoLive.

But I have never seen a legal "hot" deal involving them.

This one is WYSIWYG. And can easily get someone (who doesn't want to learn HTML) up and building a personal site or much more quite easily.

And who can argue with FREE? It offers much more than any FREEWARE site builder I have seen (especially in terms of EASE of use). And I have seen plenty (I learned HTML the hard way).

I got an even better deal for an HTML editor... its called notepad :p

Actually, I've tried Fusion myself, and do like it for what it provides. I prefer doing the coding myself, but if I have something basic that I want done quickly and don't care what the code looks like, I either use Fusion or Dreamweaver.... and since Fusion is free after MIR, it would be a great buy for anyone out there just wanting to build thier own personal web page.

It would tie in great with all the good scanner deals that were/are floating around. You can scan family pictures and then put them up on the internet for friends/family that want to see and don't live very close to you at all.

Which program do you use to design your web page?

Here is a very good discussion of web site design programs.

Notepad is a lot of work and requires profficiency with HTML.

For free, this one isn't bad. In 10 minutes or so, you're up and building a good-looking site IMO MUCH better than FP2000.

ALWAYS preview the ads if possible - ClumpUSA is well-know for pulling the 10 copies scam. I bought mine on Friday and then returned it on Monday. The SanBernardino CA store still has a LOT of copies (first time for something nice that is Free after rebate - must be because I bought it Friday before the sale). ;)

You gotta love Hot Deals. :)

Hey guys.. this isn't really for free. I mean, you buy it for $90 + tax, which is about $7-$8.

I don't know about Fusion MX, but I own the full version of NetObjects Fusion 5.0, which is basicly the same. It is true that you can build a website in 10 minutes that doesn't look half bad, but there is virtually no flexibility. Fusion also uses a lot of concepts in their web design that make for slow website loading and incompatibility. All websites you build with NetObjects Fusion use frames, there is no way to avoid it, and also, they have a system for "database backed websites." It is a joke. They use an internal database in the Fusion program, but have individual seperate pages for each entry when you upload. They could have at least tried some php, asp, cgi, or something! IMO Notepad is the only website designer with TRUE flexibility which I like. Sorry if this post is a bit harsh :)

Then again, I paid $98 for my copy academic price, so.... maybe this deal isn't all bad.

True. But you'd better sue CUSA, not me. Their ad states in large bold print:

<< FREE! FREE! FREE! After Savings and Rebate >>

and then in tiny letters that blend with the print background:
"Postage and sales-tax required for mail-in rebates."

Shall I edit my first post or do you think most of us have figured this out?

I also spent $2.10 on certifying my $90 rebate on top of the 34 cents for first class postage.

BTW - read the FINE PRINT on the rebate coupon. It is tiny and very convoluted in it's requirements.

EDIT: To put it another way . . . it's a good web site program if you are not professional. And compared with the FREEWARE (or shareware under $10) available (or even MS FP2000 for $150) it's a HOT deal.
