HIi guys,

I'm in a bit of a rut. I'm getting an error message that says, "unable to log you on because the netlogon service is not running on this machine". I cannot log into Windows with any account. Does anyone know of a workaround?

Thanks!

I believe the netlogon service is for domain authentication only. You should be able to login as the local admin and start it. If this is a domain controller then you are SOL and need to restore.

netlogon service is for domains but you are not SOL if that is the problem. Boot from the Windows XP cd and instead of choosing recovery console choose install windows. then it will come up and say that it has detected a previous windows installation and it will say hit "r" to run a repair. hit r and it will go through what looks like a clean installation. after it does this windows should work fine once again. good luck

Yea I thought it was that also but when trying to log in as a local admin it gives me the same error. There was another user accoun that we had and the password was cached so when I log in with that one I do not get a NETLOGON error but I do get some bizarre behavior. It says Windows is loading up, but then it just logs me off and I'm back at the CTRL + ALT + DEL logon screen.... x(
