The card is new netgear wg311t wireless 108mbps. I installed in a new soyo kt600 mobo with an old xp2000 and windows home xp.

The lock occurs with netgear config utility or the windows wireless utility. Checked any bios relative to pci and all looks ok. No driver problems or conflicts. It will work ok for a few minutes and then lock. On reboot it locks on scan the first time - reboot again and all is well for a few min then repeat. Computer works fine when the card is pulled.

help. where do I start.

Try a different pci slot. Is your system patched with the latest and greatest updates and spyware free?

I RMA'd the card since it did the same thing in 3 different computers ( 2 nforce2 and 1 kt600) the replacement netgear card did the same thing in the kt600. PO'd and bought a Motorola PCI at this weekend's compusa sale and it works perfectly.

Does anyone know what is with the Netgear card? Is this a serious Netgear card problem they need to address - I mean really, days and days of trying to keep different computers from locking is not normal.

By the way Tech 1, at netgear support, said it was because I had an AMD processor and the Minimum requirement was a PIII, ergo netgear products wouldn't work with a AMD (lol 3200xp400, 2500xp333 and 2000xp266) - half hour later I convinced them to get to Tech 2 and they have never heard of a problem of the PCI card causing a lock unless the PCI's were full ( none of the 3 computers have anything in the 5 pci slots ) and again no conflicts reported anywhere no matter what the slot. Basically said keep working with email support since they couldn't stay on line during the numerous attempts at booting and locking.

I'm stuck with the netgear card in a desk drawer since I can't return it - POS.
Seriously, has anyone had this experience with a PCI card from netgear?

my close friends family bought that card. I installed it for them in the parents old ABit BM6 with 433 Celeron. System for what they do works fine but they needed wireless. It locked the system just like your problem. Tried every slot, same thing. Did some reading and that card has problems with some motherboards. We got a replacement Netgear card before I had found all the people with problems on the net, and it did the same thing. We took it back and got a Dlink 108mbps card and it worked perfectally no matter what and is still working a month later.

Netgear should get their act together as this is not the first problem with their stuff I have ran into. It was quite embarsing as I recomended Netgear to them as up to that time I had no problems with any of their stuff.

I have this card on a older pc. No problems like what you are describing. I would recommend disabling the windows wireless utility, maybe disable the service.

thanks, I never tried to disable windows wireless myself because the install program for netgear asks if you want it disabled and use netgear's instead; I answered yes. I thought it may be the reason it caused locks so I disabled netgear and enabled windows wirless and it did the same thing.

I had an experience with a netgear USB adapter once. Turns out the drivers didn't like XP Service Pack 2 and made the computer restart itself constantly. Downloaded new drivers and it works.

Well, works is stretching it, as the computer will talk to my Dlink router just fine, but it won't talk to the customers Netgear router... I told them to send it all back and buy another brand.
