Other than the possibility that for some reason I can run 3rd party firmware on my Linksys (mine is v3), no one can seem to tell why I'd want to do that. :) So are there any other advantages, or disadvantages, to the Netgear vs. the Linksys models in the title? Performance, dependability? I can't seem to get the Linksys to open up specific ports I want it to and heard the Netgear is easier.

As mentioned, I'm already using the Linksys, but Staples had the Netgear, which comes with a PC card adapter (WG511T), for $30 AMIR, so I bought it while I was there, but haven't opened it. I plan to buy a laptop soon, so I can use the PC card then. But is a PC card even the way to go, or would a USB adapter/hotspot detector like this be better?

I also have a Netgear WG311T wireless PCI NIC (not using) I got cheap recently, so if I use it one day in a HTPC or something, figured it'd work best with a Netgear router.(?)

Should I keep the Netgear or return it? I don't mind selling the Linksys.

I just hopped on that same staples deal that you did. It was for a friend of mine that was having troubles with some really old 802.11b hardware. It was a snap to setup, and I got great connection with the PC card in my laptop all around their house. They told me so far so good. I dont happen to have the linksys router, but I did like the Netgear one you got when I used it.

Hmm. It says I don't have permission to view them. And I can't see a network forum available on AT.

Edit: found 'em.
