Like the title says I am having problems with my Netgear WGR614v5. The router works fine after it has been power-cycled for maybe 2-3 days, then it starts having problems. The first thing to go, it appears, are HTTP packets. It seems to be dropping them like crazy. In netstat I just have a bunch of TIME_WAIT messages for that IP but nothing ever really loads, and it ends up timing out. After that (usually a few hours) other services start shutting down, SMTP, POP, AIM, online gaming etc.

The only thing that seems to (temporarialy) solve the problem is power-cycling. It just started doing this a few months ago at random. It affects other computers wired or wireless, so I know it isn't this machine specifically. I know it isnt the cable modem as I left one computer connected directly to that when I went on vacation and it worked fine. I have updated the firmware since the problem has occurred (it was running the newest version anyway) and even tried the beta firmware (using that now) and it hasn't seem to made a difference. Other than buying a new router I don't know what else to do.

TIA,
Pete

I believe it's overheating. I've read on dslreports as well as the netgear forums that it overheats then resets. People have open and either put heatsinks or a small fan inside. Mine usually gives out about once a week. Haven't open mine yet cos I still need to find the right tools for the job.

I found the wgr614v5 the biggest piece of garbage I have purchased.
Yes Mine disconnects after 6 hours or so. I have spent MANY hours on the netgear boards and on phone support but no one can fix my problem.I spoke to one tech he suggested I use bridge mode on my adsl modem router(netcomm 1300) and let the wgr614v5 logon also make sure MTU size is 1492.This worked great I only had to reset once a month but this only lasted for about 3 months - now I am back to square one - now phone support has run out....... I dont believe its overheating I have switched the router to access point functions only and has been running absolutely fine for 2 months now without cycling the power. So I am neither satisfied or dissatisfied. I WILL NOT BE PURCHASING ANOTHER NETGEAR PRODUCT............
