Netgear RT314 - Windows XP - Rookie need some help

I just got a Netgear RT314 to use on a small home network for our computers and can't seem to get it working! Folllowed all of the instructions that came with the router and when that didn't work found some FAQ stuff on the web site that was not the answer either. One of the reasons that I got one is because of the reviews that were written over the internet and how easy they are to set up....

To be honest I am not quite sure what the problem is - but I simply can't access the internet in any way. Nothing works, so thought that I would post here.

ANY suggestions would be greatly appricated!

Ok, make sure the TCP/IP setup on your computers is set up to grab everything automatically. Then see if you can connect to the router (Start -> Run -> telnet 192.168.0.1) Password is 1234

Also find out what IP your computer is getting from the router. It should probably be 192.168.0.2

Are you getting a link light on your PCs NIC, and does the router show a network connection? You might have a crossed cable problem (Or is it straight through problem?)

First steps:
Can you ping 127.0.0.1? (This tests the TCP/IP stack on your box. If you can't do this, then remove and reinstall networking).
do an ipconfig /a, and see what IP your machine thinks it is.
Can you ping your network card?
Can you ping the router? (BTW, do not assume the router is 192.168.0.1. Check out the docs to see what the default IP address is)

I have a RT314. That's why I told him to go to 192.168.0.1. 🙂

I have an RT311, and I think that when I flashed the latest BIOS/ROM, they actually changed the default address for the router 🙁

Odd, I'm running v3.25 and it's still 192.168.0.1 for me. Is v3.26 out yet? Maybe they changed it in that?
