I'm looking for a replacement for my DSL router, after browsing around I found this: (NETGEAR N600 Wireless Dual-Band Gigabit Router WNDR3700)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002HWRJY4

I like its features (Gigabit, fast Wifi, USB...etc), but is it pricey? While searching I found many cheaper models, I am not an expert so I'm not sure if there is another product that provides the same features and costs less, or should I just get that one?

The USB feature is not that important, Synology NAS already provides that, but it wouldn't hurt. The most important feature is the Gigabit one, speed is essential.

Should I get this one or is there another that you would recommend?

P.S.
I only focused and want a router from one of: NETGEAR or Linksys

If you need Giga and Dual band that is the right price.

Personally I think that the Refurb. Cisco E4200 is better.

JackMDS, I know this might sound a bit noobish of me, but I'd really prefer a vertical mount model, if you know of one, please let me know.

gpse, there is a v2 of the 3700? Do you mind linking me to it or is it the same as the one I already mentioned in my first post?

v1 and v2 run ddwrt if that matters to you. v3 uses broadcom hardware and its suspected ddwrt will be supported eventually but not yet.

but if you dont care about ddwrt, then any version is good. i had a v3 myself, and i downgraded to an e3000 just to get $50 back. thing is, the wndr3700 destroys the e3000 in performance... so i didnt really make the best move.

you can buy a linksys e4200 for $80 or so though, and that would be more like the netgear youre looking at... but i have a feeling that netgear is going to be hard to beat

The only nice looking verticals that I know of are the Buffalo Wireless Routers.

The one that is comparable to the WNDR3700 (WZR-HP-AG300H) saves you only few $$.
I personaly like the buffalo better than the Netgear, but I can Not claim that the WNDR3700 is inferior.

However if you do not care about Giga switch, or the Dual band, or both.

Buffalo has less expensive solution.

As an example the WZR-HP-G300NH has Hi Power Wireless, and Giga switch, but no dual band, and it is $67.

I have this router and love it. While I haven't yet had a use for the 5GHz band, I do have it now wired to several devices in my house and it handles everything with ease. One plus I like about it is the metering; my ISP imposes a data cap that I have to keep and eye on. This router monitors all traffic and keeps the stats up to date. Best hardware investment I've made in years.
