NETGEAR MR814v2 Problems and Questions

I'm currently on Comcast Cable with a NETGEAR MR814v2 wirless router. The router connects computer1 physically and computer2 wirelessly. Here comes the problem. When computer1 is connected directly to the modem the internet connection is very stable. But as soon as the router comes into play, computer1's internet connection becomes very unstable (example: Ventrilo a VoIP program will get 20 ping on avg. and 250 ping when unstable). I mainly use computer1 for gaming and computer2 for web surfing. Is there a way to fix this unstable problem? Also do you suggest I should get a different wireless router? If you need more information please leave questions because I am very willing to answer. Thanks alot.
