svtour,

the linksys is an improvement, but it's not perfect. I still have net disconnects and other strange errors.

i'm actually considering returning it and just using an old laptop as a router.

i haven't had a problem w/ my MR814, and i'm on a college pipe. meaning, i download at near 1MB/sec speeds. i'm on an older firmware though, can't remember which one though... i updated it over the summer

I limited the connections to 100 per torrent, and its doing pretty good so far, downloads are at 150k now and hasnt crashed in a few hours. I will try to see how many connections per torrent i can get stabilily(sp?)

is that with a torrent client? what settings are you using? how many simultaneous downloads are you doing?

This is a known issue with wireless connections on these routers. Especially if you use BitTorrent that will cause the router to lose packets. Try installing the latest firmware.

Wow, I've had this problem too. I had a westell, now a motorola. I've had this issue witjh both. I am now going to look into replacing nic cards. Can anyone recommend a good one or tell me the difference besides price in a 10/100?

unless you have terrible nic cards, i doubt that will offer any improvement.

the problem is that these home routers are designed for typical home use, not file sharing apps.

I've now tried the above mentioned netgear, linksys, and a homebrew laptop router using freesco.

This old 133mhz laptop blows away the netgear and linksys. for torrent file sharing, the netgear gave me about 30kbs, the linksys about 45kbs, and the laptop about 130 kbs.

i can max out connections and so forth, but anything more than 3 torrents actually slows down my overall transfer rate.
