Netflix carries almost every US release that's in print, inlcuding blu-ray and HD-DVD, including in-print Criterion editions.

Some titles are out of print and unavailable, for example the Criterion editions of Hard-Boiled and The Killer.

Sometimes there is a delay of a month or so for certain studios, but the only example I can think of is A&E's MI-5/spooks.

I am just not seeing it. Blockbuster doesn't I know that much but netflix still seems to be limited with very rare films.
I'm curious, what did you fail to find that's a US DVD and that's in print?

I've thought I'd caught them once or twice but when I checked online stores the disc was always out of print / unavailable.

Edit: and I have gotten out of print DVDs from them like the original limited pressing of The Decalogue before it was reissued.

Here's my list of "Saved" films (in Queue but not available) from Netflix:

Before the Rain (Foreign - 1994)
Carousel (1956)
My Man Godfrey (1936)
Our Man Flint (1966)
Quo Vadis (2001) (would like the 1951 version but it's not listed at all)
Raise the Red Lantern (Foreign - 1991)
Show Boat (1951)
Spellbound (1945)
The Last Emperor (1987)

Raise the Red Lantern was quite good, though sad. DVD Empire says it's "currently unavailable" so that explains why Netflix doesn't have it 🙁

Our Man Flint is also unavailable, but DVD Empire lists an "Ultimate Flint" collection you could request Netflix to get that has it (here) <-- went to help center, searched "request"

I'm too lazy to look up the rest 🙂

i put on The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover from my first month with Netflix.

they showed the summary and the cover image but didnt carry the movie. In the year i had netflix i kept that movie on my pending but it never got moved to available.

when i switched to blockbuster online, they too dont have that movie 🙁

but otherwise i found Netflix's catalogue to be most excellent.
