Netflix

I want to know what ATOT thinks of Netflix. I might want to try them out... Give me a few opinions...

would have given a 10 back in the day, but the way they do shipping has changed so much that it's gone down to a 6.

what do you mean?

That if you don't take 2-3 days to watch your movies and instead choose to send them back right after you watch them, netflix will hold your next DVD's a couple of days.

This hasn't happened to me yet. I send them back the next day. Although, I've only had the service for a couple months.

Yeah, they do this do me because I send them back the same day I get them. Their distro is less than 20 miles away, but they hold on to them to make sure you dont rent oo many. Expect to get only 12 movies a month, sometimes a few more. Its not unlimited like they claim.

Gave em a 7. Aside from the delay in shipping the movies, they have a good selection, and if theres a problem with the disc, they send you out another one before you return the damaged disc.

I think it's the total number rented in the last X weeks rather than how fast you return any one movie.

I sometimes wait days and sometimes watch movies the day they arrive. Netflix processes both in usually 1 day (Mail on Monday, received/processed Tuesday, have new movie Wednesday).

I say 8/10 because I've gotten a few broken discs. But thats to be expected. There was a while there when it took much longer to get discs, and I was thinking of switching to blockbuster. I honestly think blockbuster is AS good if not better now. Me and my room mate both have these services. He has blockbuster, and I have netflix. They are both just as quick, and he gets 2 free coupons a month for video games or whatever else.

This way if there is a particular movie your gf wants to see other then the one she said she wanted to see, you can just run down and get it rather then wait 2-3 days.

They have added a shipping depot closer to me, so I say 8. I would rate them higher if their DVDs were typically in better condition. I get about 1 out of 10 that have bad scratches. Also, they should have a yearly subscription that would give you a discount, like $150 - $175 for 1 year membership.

i used to love netflix. now i don't have time to watch dvds so i cancelled.

if you have the time and a nice system to watch on, it rocks.

I don't know why you claim a 1-10 scale when it's really 1-5, but that's been mentioned enough.

That said, I give them a 10. We get quick turnaround, and have yet to receive a disc that was unplayable. Selection is great too. If you've got the time to get your money's worth in terms of the number of movies that you watch, it's more than worth it.

I would rate them at an 8. The selection is superb, the local distro center is maybe 20 miles away so 1 day turnaround most of the time, and the customer service has thus far been excellent. Prices are lower now too. They would have gotten a 10, save that now it seems that sometimes the shipping is irregular. I'll have some titles shipped the same day, however the estimated arrival will be several days difference, as will the actual arrival. I hypothesize that they are shipping the DVD's from across the country sometimes instead of locally. Shipping has slowed down since the price decreases as well.

The primary reason I've stayed with Netflix instead of switching to one of their competitors is that I don't typically rent the summer blockbuster hollywood garbage, I like to get a lot of older movies, sometimes an obscure title or two, and sci-fi TV series. Plus I've had horrible experiences with Blockbuster's in store customer service, and I despise Walmart just on principle. 😉

Great turn-around on all but newest releases......then it's down hill after a while.

Final score: 6/10

blockbuster is evil. no money for them.
netflix has carried directors cuts and unrated/wide screen only from the start.

this has never happened to me, even back in the days when i was ripping them to my hard drive and dropping them back at the post office within one hour.

they get 5/5 for me. i  them.

used to like them - was 48hrs between the time I sent the disk to the time I had the new one. After a few months, they got pokey and sometimes it would take three or four days to receive the disks even after the confirmation email saying they shipped the disk. While I used to really like them, after four months or so, it seems they decided to jerk-off when dealing with my account and became unreasonably slow. I cut them some slack for the holiday season, but the slowness lasted until February. Screw Netflix.
