I finally had it with NF and cancelled my account. I signed up with BB and no problems so far.

i'm close to doing this, but am balking so far because of BB's horrid selection. I've yet to find ONE movie not available from netflix (even tho it may have a wait)

Did they try to offer you anythign when you cancelled?

They didn't offer anything. All the movies in my queue at NF were available at BB. Plus, we don't live too far from a BB B&M.

All of Netflix features seem to be down this morning.... recommendations, friends, movie details, ratings, and the queue

Also, the first 10 of the movies in my queue either have short or long waits

What happened to you my beloved Netflix?!@???????????? 🙁

they sent us "Golden Girls" instead of Napolean Dinomite 😕

As they become more popular it will become harder to get the DVDs you want. Sucks but that's just the way it is.

My problem: I have been receiving a lot of scratched and unplayable DVDs lately.

Definitely seems to vary depending on where you live.

I've been with Netflix for about 2 years now. I haven't seen any changes in the quality of their service. They always estimate 3 days for shipping to me, but 95% of the time, it only takes 2 days.

I just signed up for a BB trial. The biggest reason is that we got an XBox this christmas so my son has been renting about one game a week from BB. Since game rentals are $6.99 now, those two free in-store rentals practically make the DVD rental service free. The other advantage of BB is that they receive and ship movies on Saturdays unlike Netflix. Of course, thats really only an advantage if the shipping and processing time is comparable to Netflix.

I'm a little worried about the turnaround time at BB though. My first 3 movies shipped on Saturday. The estimated delivery date was today (3 post office days later). I received one movie yesterday, one movie today, and haven't received the 3rd movie yet. Makes me wonder wtf the deal is. Why would it take 2 days, 3 days, and 4 or more days when all three movies shipped at the same time?

FWIW, all of the movies in my queue that have been listed as "Very long wait" (several months according to their definition) have shipped with no delay.

I'm reaching closer and closer to cancelling Netflix and going with Blockbuster.

Netflix now seems to have adopted several shipping "stages" when it receives a movie. I've seen "Shipping Tomorrow", "Shipping", and "Shipping Today"

Why would they put "Shipping tomorrow" when they've already received my movie? Frustrating!

The movies might be shipping from different distribution centers. While you mail all of your movies back to the same place, that center might not have your movie. Instead of waiting until your local distro gets it, one a bit away ships it and it arrives a day or two later.

"Today" / "Tomorrow" : probably just means they know from experience that a certain number of copies will be received and returned to available stock, and that you're at the top of the list to receive a disc from that stock.

blockbuster has been too slow for me. i'll switch if I can find out a list of the blockbuster distro's and if one opens up nearby (i would suspect they would)

Shipping today normally means, we are going to wait until 5 o'clock and change it to shipping tomorrow.

Lately, maybe 1 out of 5 movies will get shipped out the same day as it is received. They will receive it at 9 AM, have the "Shipping Today" tag on it and change it at the end of the day.

Just an update.
I cancelled my Netflix account and I'm sticking with BB for now.
BB has some kind of tracking so when the post office scans the movie you are sending back, BB ships your next one out. I've heard mixed reviews from people. Some say that this works well and they get movies shipped to them a day or two before they movie they returned arrives at BB. Other people say that they don't see this happen with their account. I've only shipped one BB movie back so far, but in my case, they shipped me the next movie in my queue the next day. The movie I returned didn't arrive back at BB for another 2 days. So they definitely got notified by the post office that it had been shipped.

So far, even though shipping time is the same (3 days each way), the tracking system gives BB a 4 day turnaround instead of 6 days with Netflix. That and the 2 free game rentals made it an easy choice for me.

The ONLY thing at this point keeping me on Netflix is their superior selection. But I may cancel for a month and see how that goes since netflix keeps your account, ratings, and queue active even with a cancelled account

Anyone know where a list of Blockbuster's disty centers may be found?

"The following list of Netflix distribution centers was collected by Listology's Netflix Tracker . EDIT: aw crap, just realized you wanted BB not NF.......I'll leave it though in case anyone else is interested.

We have tried both services. Now with Netflix but going back to Blockbuster. During the 2 week trial with Netflix we were very happy to get our movies the next day after signing up (as ther is a distribution center is only 100 miles away). But just to test them my wife mailed our first 3 dvd's back to that same disto center the next morning - mailed at the local post office so we would eliminate any lag in postal pickup. It took Netflix 5 days to acknowledge receipt of the 3 dvd's.

PISS POOR!

1 Alien vs. Predator PG-13 Action & Adventure Shipping Wednesday

2 The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement G Children & Family Shipping Wednesday

3 Sliders: Seasons 1 and 2: Disc 5 NR Television Shipping Wednesday

4 King Arthur UR Action & Adventure Shipping Wednesday

5 Sliders: Seasons 1 and 2: Disc 4 NR Television Shipping Wednesday

Received all around 9 AM today. I had joked with the wife about that meaning they will ship one today and 4 tomorrow. She accused me of being cynical, but I guess I was giving Netflix too much credit.

I don't see many other alternatives. Blockbuster was doing better, but last night got the same problem that I had with Netflix. DVD scratched beyond belief. I guess some people think it is funny to ruin these DVD's for the next person.
