I don't really understand why this requires the newest OSX when it seems like the presence of the T2 chip seems to be the key for 4K to work.

It sounds like they're using some industrial grade DRM to protect their titles.

Of course, it still won't stop their content from showing up on the pirate sites a few hours after they release a new series :)

Yeah, it's too bad that Kaby Lake isn't good enough, since I bought my 2017 Kaby Lake 5K iMac (and Kaby Lake 12" MacBook) specifically because it supports h.265 HEVC 4K HDR and the appropriate 4K streaming DRM. ...but only on Windows...

I guess PlayReady DRM is a MS and Intel technology that Apple wouldn't want to implement? That would make sense, since it's not owned and controlled by Apple.

4K DRM in every format (Streaming or Disc) is the most ridiculously gated system I think they've come up with yet. Yet the industry will no doubt complain when people keep pirating content.

So, Netflix DRM depends on a security chip with an unpatchable security flaw? Lovely.

What's the point of posting something like this? How does it relate to Netflix relying on the powerful T2 chip for video decoding?

In addition, that security flaw requires someone to physically access the laptop.
