Netflix Rant

Ok, so I moved on the 1st of March and canceled my netflix two days prior to that. Now I moved into a place that has better all conditions, but it came at a price, exactly $265 per month more then what I was paying in my old place. I did some calculations and came up with I could do it if I made some small sacrifices. Paying Netflix $20 a month was one of them.

Ok, so I canceled my subscribtion right after I was billed for my next month, but I figured if I didn't do it now I'd forget about it. So I recieved an email stating to send back the three movies I had out because I cancelled, kinda thought that they would let me use the service til the next billing period since I already paid for it, but wasn't going to make a big deal outta it. I had two of the movies on me, and this next weekend was going back to the place where I use to live to grab the other.

Take note I never recieved another email or anything from them besides that first request, and all it was was a confirmation of my cancellation and to send back the movies and even gave me an address to send them to.

So I find out that yesterday they billed me 3x $21.95 to my bank account, and since I had $20 in my bank account (actually $19.77 but was rounding up) I went into the negatives because of them, not only that, I will be charged 3x $30 for overdraft.

Now, that money I had in the bank was my food money til next month. I go to school full time year round and work three jobs. Only reason why I'm home today is that I have mono from not getting enough sleep/rest (no, didn't get it from the other way for those that are thinking that!). One of my jobs that doesn't pay so well, I get full health insurance, that's why I work there.

Is there anything that I can do? I really don't have that extra $150 Netflix pulled from my account. I mean, I thought they would have had to have permission to take money from my account? Is that right or am I totally wrong on that? Is there anything that I can do? I mean they gave no notification that they were going to charge my account or anything along those lines.

Thanks guys

I would call them immediately and sort it out. If you sent the movies in, they shouldn't have charged you at all, and they need to cover the cost of the overdraft charges.

Haven't gotten a phone yet, can't afford it for another month or so.

Find a payphone and call them then.
This is why you shouldn't use your debit card for "services" like this.
BTW for someone claiming to be "poor", that is a very nice system you have there 🙂

Got a friend? Use your lifeline!

I just got done emailing them, is there customer assistance decent over email?

I time I emailed them and never heard back, the other time they got back to me in a matter of hours. Overall I would say yes since the first email was back when they first started.

Yeah well, I got most of my system from a friend who I'll be paying back with my tax returns, really a nice guy 🙂

That and the other things I had before him was before I moved so I had a bit of extra money.

Scoring for rant:

Clearness and conciseness: 10/10
Sympathy Factor: 8/10
OP Anger and Rage: 4/10

I think you need to be a little bit angrier and less level-headed about this situation. But overall, it was a fine rant.

For the Rage factor, it's partly pissed off and partly worried what I'm going to do if they don't do anything...mostly worried. I use to buy off of ebay before I found AT, I've gotten use to being ripped off 🙁

If netflix refunds you those charges you just have to go to you bank and show that the withdrawls were an error and they will also refund the overdraft charges... hope it works out for you... Oh and if Netfliz won't refund then just go to the bank and beg them to give you back the OD charges if you're not a repeat offender they usually give some or all back...

I would predict that they will refund the $60 they charged you for the movies.

Then you would have to talk to your bank about the overdraft, not sure if you'll be able to get the $30 back
