Netflix now works on Linux

Rejoice! If you're running Netflix is now officially supported on Ubuntu and it's many derivatives including Linux Mint. All you need to run it is Chrome 37 or higher. They're finally using HTML5 instead of Silverlight. I've confirmed it does indeed work.

Hopefully someone will bake this support into an XBMC app for XBMCbuntu. Would definitely get more use out of my HTPC.
 
Wow, cool news. I don't use Netflix myself, but I'm sure that there is a good-sized population of Linux users that might be in Netflix subscriber households.
 
I'm sure both Apple and Google has been pushing them to abandon reliance on Microsoft Silverlight. Valve has also wanting to integrate it into Steam OS. It was only a matter of time.
 
Web quality is sometimes lower than "app" quality. As in, they won't give you FHD if you stream from the web, but they will if you are streaming from an app.

At least that was something I noticed a few months ago while browsing their catalog online.

At least you guys get to use it now.
 
Any word on if this is being ported to other *nixes? Specifically OSX - I get annoyed by the Silverlight application having to update all the time 😛
 
I'm on Debian. I was able to run Netflix on Chrome with User-Agent Switcher. Netflix thinks I'm on a Windows machine. I've been doing it since August. My network seems to be a little slow today, but I thought HD worked :notsure:

A lot of Netflix HD content isn't available on computers but available on other devices.
