Has anyone notice all of Netflix new releases are now being tagged with either a "Short wait" or "Long wait" when added to the queue right away?

This is very disappointing. Trying to get Anchorman delivered for New Years weekend 🙁
 
Its usually like that with Netflix or the local video store, everyone & their mother wants the new movies the day they come out. That being said, I usually get new release fairly quickly from Netflix. Good Luck!!!
 
I've noticed it with more regularity just recently (past couple of weeks)

I wonder if it has anything to do with holidays
 
Noticed it recently as well. I missed out on Resident Evil 2 yesterday because it's already a short wait.

Hopefully, things will return to normal after the holidays.

Don't waste your time... that movie is terrible.
 
i used to have a 1-2 day turnaorund on netflix. then in october, i guess i was tagged a frequent renter and they slowed it down 4-5 days. i cancelled my account yesteday and opened one with blockbuster. i'll try them out and see how it goes.

service varies for me 2-3 days. it all depends on when they claim to have "received" the movie. Sent a movie yesterday, they received it this morning, shipped it out today, i'll receive my movie tomorrow. If I were to give a movie on a Monday and receive another on Wednesday every week, I would pay 3 times the amount I do for that kind of service. It doesn't always work out that way though.

If you rent too much, they start to slow your queue down.

Seems like wait time is one of the major issues, maybe THE major issue, with Netflix. I still have a number of DVD's that I've bought that I haven't viewed even once, so I'm not itching to sign up with Netflix. Maybe someday, but if it's hard to get what you want, I may not do it at all. Are their margins so slim they can't afford to buy enough DVD's to satisfy demand?
 
"Short wait" doesn't mean you won't get it, it just means you might or might not get it. For example, 1,000 people are waiting, 500 copies are being shipped back by other people -- that means you still have a 50% chance of getting the movie.

"long wait" still doesn't mean you won't get the movie, just that the odds are worse, say 10%.

And netflix does seem to queue up people at least partly by when they put the movie into their queue, so eventually they put you at the top of the waiting list for whatever copies of a "long wait" movie they have.

It's not hard to get what you want, unless you must see specific new releases on the exact day they are released. If you're OK with maybe having to wait a week sometimes (teh horror!), you'll be fine. If you keep other movies in your queue that you actually want to see, what's the problem?

Between TV shows (US, British, anime), foreign films, and Hollywood fare I have around a hundred items in my queue right now. Last week I got Shaun of the Dead but not Resident Evil 2, but so what? Resident Evil shipped Monday and I got it yesterday.
 
the more you rent, the longer your wait. Free trial period, there is no wait. 1-2 weeks after that, still no wait. After that, if you're flagged as a heavy user, watch out.

ok, i didn't actually spit coffee, but I was laughing for about 5 minutes


Netflix is slowing me down as well....and A Perfect Circle :Amotion and Hero have remained at very long wait since they were both released.

So practice a little moderation and less "burn and return."

My turnaround time has been a steady 2.x days (usually 2) for years now, but I don't try renting 15 movies a month on a 3-disc plan.
 
on wired i read about this netflix project, where a group is trying to rip to disk all movies that netflix has. they have 15K so far right now. i would give my left nut to have access to that.
 
meh i wouldn't. why bother when you already have netflix. seems rather redundant to make degraded copies of stuff without special features and ac3 audio blah blah.
