Netflix kills Quikster- thank god

I don't even think its a video quality issue for most people. A lot of DVD titles aren't available for streaming.

this,

the last 5 times i went to use NF what i wanted to watch was not on streaming

im glad i dont actually pay for it

What a fucked up company. Management is insane. Make a decision and stick to it. What a disaster with the flip-flopping.

It didn't make sense right now anyway. There's still so much content you can't get on streaming. They need to lock down a better selection in their streaming service with the publishers before they try and split it off.

And I'm not one of the "I hate Netflix streaming because I only tried it when they first started it" people. I actually find quite a bit on streaming I like to watch but the fact is they are having trouble getting publishers to allow them to stream first run movies when they first come to DVD. I don't get why they wanted to try and split it up before getting this resolved.

Smart move.

Logically it makes sense to separate them - DVDs are going the way of the dodo; the future is going to be all about streaming. But for the millions of consumers without a Netflix-capable set-top box, and for the millions who understand "insert disc into player to watch movie" instead of "press button to magically streaming invisible movie over the Internet", it's a very, very bad decision. Changed the brand, changed the system. It's like when BK did the No Whopper Freakout experiment - don't mess with people's convenience systems 😉

It must have been very difficult to make the decision to go back, but I applaud Netflix for doing it.
(Or those who still have a CRT-based TV... 😵
They can program a VCR, but the idea of a PVR worries them. On another note, they still use a VCR.)

That's fine, as long as they build an Android tablet instead.
By that time, maybe they'll finally have delivered my Touchpad. 😀 :\

And I'm afraid of the endless stream of tech support calls. :sneaky:

And also in the "widescreen sucks" camp, too.
But yeah, I can understand the "ain't broke" camp. My aging car is sure a sign of that. 😀

now let's bash him for changing his mind! WHAT AN IDIOT RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE

He is an idiot, but not for changing his mind on this particular issue. The original decision, while understandable from a business perspective, was handled entirely incorrectly and it is too early in the game to sell off the DVD business (which, let's be honest, was his intent in the short-term future).

As another said, if I were a shareholder at Netflix, I'd really wonder if these guys have the slightest clue.

I am not going to read through the posts.

They probably are trying to sell off the dvd portion. So it makes sense to separate out first

OK, I'm going to say (ask) it.

"WTF is with companies these days?"

I remember when they used to do market research, have focus groups, and actually mull something over before doing it. Not so much anymore. Companies have been straight up flinging the shit against the wall and waiting to see what will stick, and that wall is made of teflon these days. Hell, when they do things like this, there is a topic on it here within hours and it's full of people scratching their heads. Doesn't anybody in the company scratch their heads? Are jobs so hard to come by that everybody is a yes man now? Somebody really needs to grow a pair.

/...and yes, I feel better now. 😉

IIFC streaming only offer 2 channel sound.

I paid a lot of money for an awesome home theater and sound is at least 50% of the experience so there is no way I am streaming a movie and missing that immersive effect that 5.1 gives me.

on my Apple Tv I'm pretty sure it's 5.1

Now it's HP's turn to backpedal.

I think they kinda already did (or I heard strong rumors to that effect).

A sign of a good leader is not only one that makes good decisions, but one who can also recognize (or admit) bad decisions and act to correct them instead of stubbornly proceeding with them.

Gotta give Reed credit for that.
