Broadcast television only allows you to watch what they have pre-selected for you to watch.
Netflix allows you to watch what the fuck you want to watch.
What if i want to watch the new episode of Toddlers & Tiaras (DON'T JUDGE ME)? Or Income Property? Or House? None of that is available on Netfilx. Most stuff isn't even available on Hulu. Amazon and others have a lot of new TV shows within a day of hitting the airwaves but at a couple of dollars an episode.

I stopped paying for cable years ago. My entertainment time now is spent between iTunes, netflix, blu ray movies, and whatever video game I happen to be playing. Comcast gets money from me every month for internet access, and that's it.

Internet for most things, rabbit ears for major networks/live coverage. Cable can suck it.

Oh, I thought you meant you were streaming Netflix HD as a substitute for Blu-Rays. Many think it's "1080p" streaming when they label the stream "HD", but often it's not (720). Really the closest thing to blu-ray streaming is Vudu HDX format:
http://supports.vudu.com/questions/209/What+is+HDX?

They are around $25-30 per movie but worth it since it's stored in Vudu's cloud (if you want own the movie). For renting, yeah agree with you that Netflix is the best but how is their selection? I only stream.
Netflix does have some 1080p streams with 5.1 audio; bitrate is about 5 Mbps. Sure it's not Blu-ray quality but they're not trying to appeal to cinephiles but rather to mainstream consumers who want "HD" quality.

I haven't been a cable TV subscriber for many years, but am considering it again for the upcoming NBA Finals and Olympic Games.
