Hi all ! Well it's no secret that the big cable companies are getting plenty of dough for their programming, so my question is how many out there have switched to alternatives such as Netflix,Hulu or Hulu Plus and if so what pro's or con's can you share ?
Thanks !

Most of you kiddies dont remember but back in the 90's AT&T ran commercials about future technology they might have.

Most of them were along the lines of "Have you ever....?"
"You will, thanks to AT&T".

NONE of the shit they promised ever came through them. Only half of it is available now and all through some other company.

One of the most important items of the future was the ability to watch what you want, when you want.

Fuck the tv empire. They milked people for shit quality services. I am so glad they're scared and hurting.

When streaming internet can provide FiOS quality live network and major cable channels I will consider it. For the time being, there is no way I would cancel FiOS.

FiOS for tv, and Netflix for blu-ray movies.

No, I am surprised at this point that streaming options are so immature, but they really are. I still have to have cable, or in my case directv. There's no other way to get high def programming for everything.

Netflix for blu-ray movies? What the hell are you talking about? 1080p isn't blu-ray quality.

Huh. Netflix blu-ray through the mail. Their streaming quality is not good, so I don't use it.

Oh, I thought you meant you were streaming Netflix HD as a substitute for Blu-Rays. Many think it's "1080p" streaming when they label the stream "HD", but often it's not (720). Really the closest thing to blu-ray streaming is Vudu HDX format:

They are around $25-30 per movie but worth it since it's stored in Vudu's cloud (if you want own the movie). For renting, yeah agree with you that Netflix is the best but how is their selection? I only stream.

Their selection is fine, as far as I am concerned. I browse Fandango every couple months and add any of the currently playing or upcoming movies that look interesting to my Netflix queue. Sometime, several months in the future, I get them.

I subscribed to NetFlix some time ago, just started a sub to Hulu+, and have Amazon Prime.

I dropped cable years ago, went with OTA, now I just stream.

Netflix content flat out sucks.
I don't need to watch direct to DVD movies or TV shows from the 80s/90s.

Its higher resolution and lower compression on the PS3 and some set-tops than the Silverlight version on computers.
Which is annoying.
BUT, it also helped me to realize I dont NEED true blu-ray quality on my TV. I can get the experience just fine with streaming.

I say dump the brainwashing network channels. Learn to think for yourself. Why do you need the Hispanic, shopping, religious channels, and other channels you dont want? Tell the Cable company to go to hell. Is it worth it for $120.00 a month? You could just subscribe to Hulu + and Netflix for a lot less. Besides most of the new shows are on HULU anyway. You might find some other shows you missed that can be revisited or some exciting foreign films with Sub-titles. I kind of like the Korean Historical Films.

Why cant you just get the few channels you like? Why pay for a bunch of channels you will never ever watch?

No choice. Is there a streaming site that carries live ABC, CBS, NBS, History, Smithsonian, Fox News, Discovery, TLC, Travel, National Geographic in 1080p?

I have the most basic cable there is (it was a bundle to get a promotional price for my fast internet). I will be cancelling the TV as soon as the price goes up (which means my total price will only go up about $15 a month). Or maybe I'll just switch to RCN.

We get what you get over the air, and a couple more random things. I usually watch everything on Netflix or Hulu. Even though the movie selection on Netflix streaming isn't great, I am usually watching TV shows anyways. Been thinking about getting Hulu+ actually. Worth it if I already have Netflix?

Good Lord, $30 to "own" a movie, how many times is a person going to watch it? I can't believe people still "collect" movies, it really boggles my mind considering the majority of these collected movies are not watched more than a couple of times.

I should have added to earlier post. I'd say just over 50% of my movies are now streamed, generally amazon, sometimes directv (amazon is cheaper). The rest are redbox. I have netflix right now but it has no movies worth sh*t, so I use it to watch tv seasons.

Nope, and you almost nailed exactly the only channels I care about. Kill smithsonian (never seen it) and replace natgeo with HGTV, kill travel as well and that's all that I ever watch. Basically, I could do with Fox, HGTV, Discovery, TLC to be honest.

In FiOS quality 1080p? I know for a fact that Netflix quality isn't comparable. I haven't tried the other two.

And those three carry the major broadcast and cable networks live, as they air?

Dumped DirecTV and now only have Netflix and MCE for local tv DVR. Only thing I miss is ESPN live sports. Beefed up my FIOS bandwidth - Netflix is actual decent on my 52", DVD quality and plenty of content.

Broadcast television only allows you to watch what they have pre-selected for you to watch.
Netflix allows you to watch what the fuck you want to watch.
Why would I want to use broadcast television again?

Broadcast television allows you to actually watch current shows. Just DVR 20-30 things a week, and watch what you want, without commercials, when you feel likt it.
