I will continue to support Netflix. They're constantly trying to keep the consumers interests first, even when they do things like this. So what they lost Starz, fuck those assholes for wanting ridiculous amounts of money. 300 million, a good chunk of Netflix's profit, wasn't enough for them? lols fuck them, they'll get the clue when I keep using Netflix and lose all interest in the Starz product. This is why voting with your wallet is so important. Dump your cable, dump your premium scripts and go a cheaper route. Who cares if they don't have the newest all the rage shows, how many newest all the rage shows have you missed in your life? A fucking TON, guess what, most of those are on Netflix for you to catch up on.

UPDATE: Netflix has clarified and said that all accounts can support at least two concurrent streams. The users who saw/heard that they could only have one stream were experiencing an error which Netflix is fixing.
Emergency cancellations averted?

MotionMan

Quoted. The title should be changed to reflect the updated info. Otherwise it is just FUD.
Fixed that for you.

to be honest i thought this was already a rule...i.e. one would assume that they wouldn't let a teenager watch movies on his buddy's xbox while mom watches the roku and dad uses his laptop.

do you guys actually have multiple streams going in the same household?

yeah.

we don't have cable tv anymore. We rarely watch it. The small time that the kids get to watch tv is also the same time i would like to watch (about an hour before bed and some on weekends). So the PS3 and wii are on at the same times.

I've only skimmed the replies to this thread, but has anyone mentioned that as usual the Consumerist article title is a blatant lie to draw pageviews? There is no limitation of one stream per customer. The limitation that they're enforcing is the same limitation that they've had in their policy for years - one stream per DVD on your plan. They're just enforcing it now.

Big fat meh.

They seem to forget how Netflix started to give everyone FREE streaming years ago too. And yes, I know they charged for it at first, but they gave it to everyone FREE after a few months of no one wanting their streaming offerings.

They've always had the policy of one stream per disc out and when they changed the plans a few months ago, the streaming only plan specifically said only one stream -- quit complaining.

I dunno, maybe canada is worse. But my uncle has to use American DTV because your options and selection are shit up there so I really dont believe you when you say cable and satellite are hundreds of times better.

Well they are, netflix was really really bad, up here anyways. And most sattalite up here is from the US, i live less than 30k from the border and around here everyone just gets US sattalite or sticks with cable.

We regularly used more than one stream (kids watch on the ipad while I use the TV), but we dumped netflix when they announced the price hike. I must say I haven't missed it at all.

The thing that pissed me off the most about Netflix recently is that their damn website hasn't been working. Every time I click on 'New Releases' or try to search by title it dumps me out to the login screen. I've tried multiple browsers on multiple computers on multiple IPs and they all do it. Screw you Netflix, I just want to add This is Spinal Tap to my DVD queue!

You sure that's a netflix issue? I haven't heard of anyone ever having that problem.

Well, one time when it happened it dumped me to a placeholder "Technical Issues" page. I've tried on several versions of IE, two versions of Opera, and three versions of Firefox and they all do the same thing. I can navigate almost all of the website just fine, but if I click on 'New Releases' or search by title it fails.

They are paying way more for content now. The sweet deal they have had for the last couple years is gone.

This is the reason.

They had some bad-ass deals with content providers when the content providers did not envision streaming taking off like it did. Now the content providers are asking for a more appropriate amount of money for access to the content.

NetFlix didn't all of a sudden become some ridiculously greedy corporation, they became a corporation with much higher costs associated with providing their service. The only way to make up for it is to pass the cost onto customers.

It's like getting mad at the gas stations for higher priced gas - I can assure you that they have as much control over the prices as you and are just as unhappy about it as you are.

actually, i was having this problem about a month ago. i would try to search and it would take me to login..i would try to access my account, it would take me to login. if i clicked on an actor or actress to see the list of movies they were in, login screen. movies played fine. i was like wtf...but it was only happening on my laptop, not my desktop.

i uninstalled FF and reinstalled it and it stopped doing that.

god damn. I've mentioned this several times already in at least 3 threads about "evil" netflix (including this one), and no one ever pays attention to what is really going on.

maybe the rabble will finally shut up the more people start to understand the situation. :\

I closed my account today.

Just saw the latest debit from my bank account of $17+ and I just don't use it enough to justify that. Haven't really watched any streaming in the past 3 months and I'm very slow to return my single movie out at a time which leads to only 3-4 per month.

I can just run to the nearest dvd kiosk when I want a new release DVD for $1 at a time.

Everybody bitches about netflix.

The fact of the matter is, content providers want to get rid of netflix, so they can offer their own, much more expensive options.

Your choices are
1. netflix
2. content providers more expensive options once they maim/kill netflix
3. illegal means.

netflix is mostly old crap no one is going to buy the dvd for anyway or that cable channels use as filler.

the expensive content is the new stuff that costs tens of millions of $$$ to produce
