can anyone think of another industry where netflix's business model can be applied. it seems so simple to ship dvd's via the usps, yet they are very successful and profitable

PC Magazine had an article a few months ago about their business plan. Interesting stuff.

IMO, the only reason netflix caught on so well is because people rip the dvds AND that dvds come out so regularly.

not really, netflix is popular because of their selection and convenience. indi films/foreign/older films that blockbuster doesn't carry. not to mentnion they carry unrated directors cuts unlike blockbuster which only carries r rated stuff. blockbuster loves censorship:p blockbuster also loves pan and scam:p

Not to mention the incredible convenience it is to rent through NetFlix.

I don't understand the netflix idea. I've never used it so that's probably why. They say they ship you the dvd(s) and you return them when you want. So what motivates people to return them sooner?

you can only have so many out at a time, so you want to return them right after you watch them pretty much.

you don't get the next movie until you return one you have. netflix is amazing, i can get about 20 movies a month for $20 and i don't have to leave my house to do it.
