Anyone else noticing that the majority of public net book users are children?

I see some lower socioeconomic folk using them, but the people I'm seeing in LA using net books are typically pre teens...

I have one and use it when I'm out and about. The Evo cuts into the space but my HP netbook (Mini 210 HD) has a 10" screen of 1366x768 resolution so even the Evo can't quite compete. I think larger cell phones will eat at the bottom end and tablets will eat everywhere else leaving little left for netbooks going forward.

I mostly use mine as a GameFaqs reader couch-puter when playing JRPGs and other console games, it never leaves the house.

But it's a $135 refurb original eee with 7" screen and 900 MHz celeron so it's not speedy enough to do much else :)

Netbooks are solid "starter" computers I'd say, so it makes sense that parents might have bought them for their kids. You can get them cheaper, and it does everything pre-teens need.

I see a lot of them in the city parks. Seems to be the tool of choice for public WiFi grubbers.

My wife's only computer is a Dell Mini 10. She wanted a small computer that was light and it fit the bill perfectly. I use a Acer 1410 which is pretty small itself but I couldn't deal with the lack of performance from her computer. If I want to do some heavy duty computing I'll use my desktop.

my oldest has a 15.6" asus laptop, we didnt even consider a netbook for her.

this.

I picked up the $89 netbook that was on cowboom that one time. I don't really use it. I think it would be OK for lugging around on campus because it's so light. The screen is a little small for movies but it's not horrible. The keyboard is horribly small. You get used to it but it still sucks. It's pretty damn slow but I think it might be a little faster if I dropped in an extra gig of ram. I kind of want to overclock it.

My netbook is my travel laptop. When I'm not travelling for business it comes with me. I prefer to lug a 9" netbook than a 15.6" beast when it not work related.

Meh, I haven't fired mine up for a couple of weeks, need to sell it, comparing the speed/lag to the iPad, I kind of hate to use it now...

What kind is it? Specs? I may be interested... my bro's computer is busted and he needs something basic to browse web + word process.

Maybe.

In 2011 Netbooks will get much more powerful processors and graphics (basically raising the spec for the first time in 2 years). For example Cedar Trail will be dual core at 32nm and have an IGP capable of 1080p decode. AMD Ontario (aka "fusion") will be dual core with an even stronger IGP.

Meanwhile it looks like phone based tablets will have access to stronger ARM dual cores.

I only use mine for travel, since the only thing I need it for is web browsing when I'm bored.

Worked great this past weekend on my trip to Seattle. Having a 10.1" screen is so much easier to use when you're shoulder to shoulder on an airplane. I've tried using my old 15.6" Lenovo before, it was painful.

I considered a netbook when my wife wanted a laptop...ended going with a 13" HP Pavilion dm3. Big enough to be useful, small enough for my/our travel/business trips.
