My mother wants a netbook so I decided to be sneaky and give her my Dell Mini9 so I could have a new one 😀

When I bought my EEE 7", and the Mini 9, there were not too many choices out there so it was a fairly simple choice...now there's too many to choose from:

Seeking:
-9 or 10". for 90% web-browsing or divx movie watching
-decent build quality
-light weight
-good ergonomics (keyboard, tilt)
-decent screen for outdoors use
-good battery life
-atom processor
-1gb ram
-dont care about storage size
-portable (ie not only is netbook portable, so must be the POWER unit... if i have to carry around a huge power brick then it defeats purpose)

For frame of reference, here's what I *dont* like about my Mini9:
-limited tilt of screen -- ie cannot use on lap
-ridiculous re-mapping of Function keys, quotation marks, etc
-even though it has SSD drive, battery life is poor (defeats the purpose)

just from playing around in costco, i like the HP Mini for its wide screen and larger keyboard. I also hear the newer ASUS have ridiculous 7hr battery life? Any nice comparisons or tabulated "consensus" reviews?

I would go for one of the Asus N10's. They're a little expensive, but one has got a Geforce 9300 and a $100 mir, making it $579 afterwords. That'll be the one you'd mbe most satisfied in, as it can provide decent computing performance, and even handle HD video for an external display.

600$ is too much for a notebook

i went back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth between the ASUS (1000HA, 1000HE, 1002HA).

It was a mix between design/size (02HA), battery life (00HE), and value (00HA).

In the end, i stumbled on Lenovo S10 and just got it. Bought into the "Lenovo" hype. It struck the center of all of above attributes, and it just happens to be a Lenovo... so there it is

HAHA son of a bitch!!!

I bought the S10 because I wanted a Lenovo. They're about to release the S10-2 with pretty much the same hardware specs, except it has a larger keyboard & mousepad, is 15% lighter, but a glossy screen

I bought the S10 from newegg because I wanted the matte screen... arrived today... then i realized its the fucking S10e version with glossy screen instead. I should've held off for the new model. I may invoke AMEX to bypass newegg's return policy and send this one back....

if you had looked at my sticky you would have seen that over a week ago.
tsk tsk

not sure if this is still valid but it might be possible to get s10 for 300 Text

nah, i had seen the s10-2 release, but intentionally avoided it due to glossy screen..not realising hte s10e also has glossy screen! good deal, but unfortunately the 300 buyers were spoken for !

not a fan of glossy screen of mini 9 (not as bright), glossy case, shabbier build quality, bad keyboard (though its fixed in mini 12), and limited tilt of screen. otherwise it was nice
