Netbios to cut internet, VM to open it back up?

My XP pro workstation had been cut off from the network using NetBIOS. I've now installed Win 7 x64 on it and I'd like to setup a virtual machine running XP pro and allow it -alone- to go online. Is this viable and or is there a better way? I don't want to dual boot to get this done but will if I have to.

Just remove the default gateway from the Windows 7 box. That'll keep it from being able to go on the internet.

Will that not simply repair itself upon reboot? Being new to Win 7 I'm not 100% certain I'm blocking all traffic, period. Any new backdoors I should be aware of that need attention? I run no protection of any kind on that machine.

No, the gateway will not return unless you leave it on DHCP. Without a default gateway you have no place to go to get outside the local network.
