He's going to continue to build new settlements and refuses to talk to Syria.
So nothing actually.

I believe this is going to drive a wedge between us and Israel and that's good a thing. Obama isn't going to support Israel unconditionally as Bush did.

That is my prediction too, which is why I am curious as to where dphantom is deriving his optimism from.

Unless or nation takes on a radical change in perspective, Obama is going to support Israel with the same weak conditionalism Clinton did, as did those who came before him. President that he is, Obama can only do so much on his own. I highly recommend this Dutch documentary for insight into what I am referring to, the intro is subtitled but it is mostly interviews in English:

One does not get peace thru appeasement. Once Hamas and others know that, then there may be a better chance for Israel to peacefully co-exist with its Arab neighbors. I am not optimistic though as you seem to believe I am. I think Hamas et al will continue to attack Israel at the expense of the Palestinian people.

Well what has Israel achieved by expanding settlements or bombing Gaza?

What way do you suggest?

Then what do you hope to gain though our longstanding appeasement of Israel's conquest over Palestine?
they might not mean a reasonable two state solution and peace, but a bitter and bloody battle that "settles" the problem.settling the Paletine issue.

Israel has already alienated the larger international community, only the USA with its pro-Israeli bias now saves Israel's butt. A consensus driven Obama may be under tremendous international pressure to edge away from total Israeli support if Netanyahu does something outrageous.
Ever since the rape of Lebanon, Israel has increasingly been skating on very thin ice.

About the same thing they achieved when they ceded land to the Palestinians: More rocket attacks.

He's hardliner that will do ANYTHING to protect Israel. I don't see much peace in his being there.

I would say they've achieved nothing and are more hated now than ever by their neighbors.
Sorry but Likud isn't going to do anything other than lurch the US closer to war with Iran.
This is the problem I have with Israel, they've become the bulllies of the ME while using our money and political cover. I say fine, they want to be the schoolyard enforcer, but they need to stand on their own.
Not to divert the topic, but why is it that Israeli supporters just love giving billions to them with no strings attached but scream bloody murder if we want to help American workers?
