is the .net server like XP, or like whatever comes after XP? Are any of you running it? I signed up and got a key/iso but I dont have a hard drive to try it out on unless you can fit 1.5 gigs on a 780mb drive ;) (I dont want to risk my current setup)

.NET server is pretty much windows 2000 server with some added features and looks like XP.

Is definitely not ready for prime time either. I couldnt get my sound working with it, and it has all 3D capabilities disabled in RC1. I went back to Advanced Server 2K within a few hours.

Alot of people think they cant get sound working on it, but sound has to be manually turned on, it is not installed by default, even if you install the drivers, you still have to turn on audio seperately, and 3d acceleration was left out...because it is a server...from what I have seen everything unnecessary for running a server is removed or not installed by default, which is good for people wanting to secure the machine.

I dont know... Why do people run Win2k Advanced Server on their single CPU game machines? They probably think it is cooler.

so because you cant listen to mp3s and play quake on it, its not ready for prime time? sheesh.

BTW, using Win2k AS as a desktop OS is a really dumb thing to do.

Maybe in your esteemed opinion, but I use it for the extended software raid capabilities. Since it was free and works just like Win2k pro if you desire to configure it as such, its not dumb at all. If Win2k server was designed to run with 3D there was and is no reason to expect .NET not to when it is finished as well.

That makes it even more ridiculous...I'm assuming you want it for either mirroring or RAID-5 which is fine, in and of itself. But software raid has such a CPU hit (especially RAID-5) that it will cause a significant performance decrease in your gaming.
