I've avoided installing the .NET Framework for XP since day one, and AFIK, everything works without it. Any reason to install this? Any problems or dangers with it?

TIA :)

Paint.net is a great application that uses it. I've run into 1 other app that required it, but I can't remember what it is off the top of my head. If you don't need it, you don't need it, but having paint.net is worth the install for me.

I never had any problems with it in XP(used it for various programs).
Side Note: Vista comes with NET framework 3 included I believe,I also installed NET framework 1.1 in Vista x64 for one of my older paint programs (still no problems).

There have been security updates for various versions of it as time has gone by. I'd go with Schadenfroh's advice: install it when you have a need for it. Same goes for other stuff, particularly stuff that can interact with Web content... minimize your potential attack surface as a general principle. QuickTime Player and Sun Java Runtime are a couple at the top of my "don't install this unless you really need it" list in recent times.

Nope, just admittedly ignorant about what it does and whether there are any security issues associated with it. I know there have been some. From the replies, I take it they've been resolved.

Install it when needed. Its data, not a voodoo hex.

So far, I haven't encountered the need for it. It ain't broke without it. I'll follow the general directive for such cases.

Thanks for the info, folks.
