We pay for it by selling the meat of 3 week old infants. Seriously though lets take .0001% of the defense budget. done. Or we could add it to the debt.

the real question is as someone who works in that industry do you think it's regulation needs a revamp?

No I don't. Increasing inspection from the FDA will not solve any of these issues. The food industry continues to evolve as do testing methods and procedures in an aim to prevent issues such as the cookie dough.

Additionally, this discussion is moot until it is determined what caused the actual E. coli in the cookie dough. There are hundreds of possibilities from employee hygiene, water quality, equipment sanitation, raw materials, suppliers, distribution, packaging, etc.

Furthermore, I doubt Nestle even tests their cookie dough for E. coli because it is not reasonably likely to occur based on the make up of the product. Some might argue that food companies should run microbiological testing on all products for all harmful bacteria but the feasibility and cost would be outrageous. Consumers would be looking at $100 rolls of cookie dough.

Absolutely. Accidental contamination happens, but its spread can be significantly reduced by competent food inspection.

How would this be accidental contamination? Salmonella occurs naturally in poultry.

The fact of the matter is the dough was marketed and sold with the intent to be cooked. You would not hold Foster Frames responsible for for someone eating raw chicken and getting sick.

This is true, but the cooking instructions are targeted towards Salmonella concerns and the raw product is tested for Salmonella prior to being released to the general public.

As I stated above, E. coli is not tested for in my experience in this type of product. Depending on the levels of E. coli that the product contained, the cooking instructions may or may not have made a difference.

So...I had already consumed half of my Nestle Toll House Ultimate cookie dough (chocolate chunk with pecans) by the time I saw this info. I still ate the rest. My GF and I noticed no ill effects. Fuck 'em.

Although Nestle voluntarily recalled all of its raw cookie dough, only dough produced at one facility was actually contaminated. I know of at least two facilities that make the raw dough, but I am sure there are more.

Attempting to have a logical conversation with Harvey is like trying to teach a dog to ride a bicycle; you'll only end up frustrated and may end up getting pissed on. ;)

What I think RyanPaulShaffer is trying to say is that the FDA is neutered and while its responsibility is to protect consumers, it often cannot.

Government intervention in the markets is a two-way street. While we as consumers allow government to intervene in the markets, we've also opened up corporations and big businesses to also have their say in government. It is a deal we have made, and we have underestimated the consequences. The problem is corporations and big businesses have more money and more ability to petition government, so they get their way more often than we do. Big business loves big government.

The case here is a very good example of this. We have put our faith in the FDA to protect us as consumers, yet the FDA is neutered and often incapable of performing its tasks.

We have sacrificed our economic freedom for economic security and we now have neither.

You just keep repeating that. It makes you look either childish or just plain stupid.
Seriously, it is hurting any kind of point you are trying to make.
You need to re-read this thread and realize you are off on some tangent that makes no sense and that whatever kind of point you are trying to make is being hurt by what you are posting.

bacically what techs is saying is, yes it is not required but it should be. seems that you are overlooking that a wee bit of information. The fact it wasn't required is the basis of the trouble, if it was, this may never have happened.

He was simply stating a fact. A childish or stupid action would be something like claiming that WorldNetDaily advocated the murder of homosexuals, then refusing to provide any proof when called on it. But I'm sure that you wouldn't know anything about that, right?
