Lower the input frequency setting on the audio tab.

Well that helps things but I still get the occasional static. Plus that does distort the sound as well and it doesn't smooth out the horizontal scrolling of the game.

Alt-enter.

Doesn't work.

EDIT: Just nudging the frequency down 20 Hz seems to work well. I only noticed one pop in the audio and the distortion is minimal. Why you have to do that beats me. I think it's certainly playable this way but I still feel there is a bit of choppiness. On the plus side the spinning room in Castlevania performed the same as I recall it does in SNES9x. I can't believe that they kept such a room in the game that caused so much slow down.

So how exactly do you load a game into bsnes?

The problem is that the guy that makes the program seems to be overly anal about this. Most roms have the file extension *.smc but his program only accepts *.sfc (because that stands for Super Famicon). No difference in the rom, you can just rename the file. But there is also the catch that the program doesn't accept headers (I think that's what it is). So what you have to do is run the snespurify program that is included to change all your roms to the programs standards. I really think this is stupid. I can understand the arguments about accuracy of emulation but this is just abject pedantism when it comes to the file formats.

If you're just using the standard good dumps from the GoodSNES rom set, you probably don't have any copier headers, I don't think. If you do, you just have to purify them once.

He definitely is a bit set in his ways regarding file formats, naming conventions, archive support etc. Thankfully you only have to deal with those once. The UI isn't the greatest either. People just have to decide whether putting up with those things is worth it to them or not. For me it definitely is, but if you are only playing Mario, Zelda, and a couple other of the big titles, then maybe it isn't.
