Maybe this is just too simple for all of you:

I've looked around the web for Nero 5.5....found some selling for 5$, others for 40-60$ and up. Stupid question: the "OEM" versions that are 5, 10, 15$.....are they not tagged for specific burners or burner mfgs?

OEM can be tagged for specific burners but most of the time is not. My copy is OEM and works with Lite-on and Teac burners with no problems....

What's the point of buying such oem software.
They take out the cd from hardware bundle to sell to you alone or it could be fake or pirate.
Using such software = using pirate or download from warez site or using crack/key generator.
You didn't pay anything to the software maker.

I was assuming the same thing, thanks for confirming. Hate to spend money w/o reason (ie just because someone's selling it for 6$ instead of 60$!) but at the same time hacked/stolen copies, or (worse for me) copies that won't work on other burners aren't what I'm into.

This is not a "hot deal", but this thread is. They have an OEM version of Nero 5.5 and will send you a serial number so that it operates with your particular burner.
