Nero Newbie....help

Maybe I am spoiled by the ease of EasyCD Creator but I just got Nero and I hard all these great things but man it's tough for me to figure out how to use the darn thing.

1) I tried making a backup to my Software CD...it said it was copyrighted...and to Insert a Blank Medium....Well I had a brand new empty CDR sitting in the drive....Whats the deal with that?

2) I think I was able to make a ISO copy but when I go to Windows Explorer to check out the newly burned CD..there's nothing there.

Maybe I just need to spend some time but I thought Nero was the best burning software around and could burn anything including copyprotected stuff

what's the deal?

Some of the new copy protection formats are TOUGH. Try reading and writing with raw data and you will get a better (although much slower) result. For some games backups are no longer a possibility with Nero. Check out CloneCD and Blind Read/Write.

Nero is still the best for normal burning of cds and dvds. But for backups you sometimes have to use extraordinary methods.

Check to see if the "test burn" box is checked. If I remember correctly Nero will imitate burning until you tell it to stick with your selected settings and burn. Also make sure your source and destination drive (reader and burner) are correctly specified.
If you take the blank and look at the writable side has any data actually been burned to the disk after you are done?
