Check if you are really using the right shortcut. As far as I know it does not replace files on NERO, rather overlays a simple interface if wanted. Worst case go to the NERO dir and try to launch just NERO.exe (I assume that is the name, not sure) and see what happens.

I did the exact same thing. I updated Nero, after it installed I clicked on the nero shortcut and Nero express came up. I shut that down and found the old nero shortcut in the start->programs location. I clicked on it and it opened the regular nero. I copied some files to a disc. I shut down nero, came back a few minutes later and the Nero link was gone. Everything I tried opened up Nero Express. I tried the links in the install folder and all opened nero express.
Very weird.
