I installed a ZipCD 12x10x32x on my Bro's system. I then installed Zip Ware, which said it would install the driver, along with DirectCD and something else (which I didn't want). When I look at the drive info in the device manager though, it still says it's Microsoft's driver.

Well Nero 5.0.2.4 won't locate the drive at all. DirectCD found it just fine though. Any ideas?

Try the latest version of Nero and see if it recognizes it. The latest is v5.0.3.8. The supported recorders page says that the following Iomega drives are supported

ZIPCD 4x650 IDE yes
ZIPCD1024INT-A IDE yes

I think I read your mind ;). I am downloading it already, but won't know if that is what is needed until I go back voer there tomorrow. Hope that is it.

I had this same problem last weekend after installing my drive. As soon as I updated to Nero 5.0.3.8, the drive was instantly detected. Gotta love Nero.

Beware that Nero 5.0.3.8 has been a pain for a lot of people with the Plextor 1210A and its clones, at least under WinME. My TDK couldn't even get through a simulation. After a minute, the buffer indicator would run down to 0 and Nero would report a SCSI/IDE error, then the disc couldn't be ejected without a reboot.

Downgrading back to the version 5.0.2.8 included with the drive solved that problem.

Oh yeah, if you're looking for backup software that works well with these drives, try Dantz's Retrospect. Veritas won't recognize the Iomega or the TDK even though it supports the Plex but Retrospect uses an installed ASPI layer. I backed up 7 Gigs of MP3s at 10X with it in 80 minutes. Not bad.
