Nero Burn Error problem~ Help!!

I have not used my external burner for 2mths as i used my dvd/cd-rw combo on my lappy, and i hook it up and used the same Nero 5.5 that i have been using, i cannot get it to burn one CD-R successfully!!

All i get is coasters, the program "hangs" with the timer counting but the burn stalls. Or it gives a burn error. i have tried MP3s, regular data, even a 8mb file, but all is coasters, incomplete.

I tried changing the ram buffer from auto to manual (70mb), but it does not change a thing.

The reason is because i got some cheap K-hypermedia CD-Rs, and whenever i burn with my DVD/CD-RW combo drive, it works fine but whenever i used it on my indash car cd player, some part of the cd, the songs are distorted.
So i wanted to see if my burner or the CD-R is the problem for the distorted songs.

Pls, any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

The distortion is probably from the encoding process. How are you making an audio cd? Using Nero's audio plug-in? I would try EAC to wav then burn w/ a slower speed. Regarding the external cdrw, is it attached to the pc via usb, scsi, firewire or parallel?

I have tried burning at diff speeds, slow or fast. I am not burning audio cds, only data. ISO 2 format w/ joliet. The external cd-rw is attached through USB. And i am sure connections are fine, the external redas and detects blank cd-r.

My MP3 files donot have encoding problems, it plays fine on my comp and it sounds good(no distortions) in my car from previous burns about 2 mths ago.

hmmm... i had this problem earlier, too...
what i did was shut down winamp, kazaa, etc...
then burn the cd at lower speed (16 instead of 32 -- you might want to try lower)
other than that, i have no clue... restart your computer before burning the cd?

I know it's a late reply but it's the cd-r. I have a bunch from like 2 years ago that still don't work on my new burner (that I just tried 5 minutes ago!!)! I had problems with that media and Acer drives before too. Same problems as you. I used a different media type now (Fuji and TDK) and have no problems at all. Get some new media!
