Nero and Plextor PX-W1210A

I couldn't get Nero to detect my Iomega ZipCD 121032A so I changed it to a Plextor(here). I still couldn't get it to be detected so I updated the firmware to 1.09. It still wasn't detected so I upgraded Nero to 5.5.6.4.

It still is not detected. I get the following error when Nero starts

Under Windows NT4/2000 byrn rights are required by Nero to access cd recordersand cd-rom/dvd-rom drives. Please ask your administrator for permissions to use Nero.

I tried logging in as Administrator and got the same message.

I am running Win2k on a Abit KT7-RAID board with VIA 4in1 4.31 drivers.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

The software that comes with lite-on drives (and other manufacturers) does only work with that cd'r software. So you could be out of luck there.

But you should also install the "force aspi" thing.

I searched google groups and found that this is a common problem that Ahead is working on. It seems to be a problem with permissions and people have various solutions for it, but I'm surprised that you weren't able to access Nero even when you were logged in as Administator.

Do you have any virtual drives installed in the system?

i have 12/10/32a and win2k, and nero, and no problems ..

-forceaspi is nice, and i use it, but nero just uses its own aspi file, its in the nero root dir i believe wnaspi32.dll .. i believe thats the one .. good luck ..

Here are two solutions which might work, taken from Usenet postings:

The first:

Right click on the Nero icon, select "Run as", check the "Following
user" option, select an admin account, and supply the password and burn to
your heart's content.

And the second one:

This problem has been solved, but here's the solution once
again.
You should first of all download the fix for this Nero-
behaviour at:
http://www.wintotalserver.de/server/fixes/w2kaspi.zip
You can also get to this file by going to the following
website:
http://www.wintotal.de/softw/bugap/nerow2k.htm and click
on the link
"Patch f? Nero-Burning CD-Rom zum Brennen ohne Admin-
Rechte" (it's in German, I know)

Next follow these steps:
1) Log on to Windows as administrator.
2) Install the WinASPI driver from LSI-Logic (can be found
in the
downloaded ZIP-file). It is called "w2kaspi.exe".
3) Restart your computer.
4) Log on to Windows as administrator.
5) Import the Registry-data (also in the ZIP-file) into
your registry
(doubleclick on "ASPIXNT Enable ports.reg").
6) Restart you computer.
7) Log on to Windows as administrator.
8) Rename "WNASPI32.DLL" to "WNASPI32.DL ". Search for
this file on your HD. It is probably in your system or system32 folder.

Now even users without Administrator rights can burn CD's
with Nero!

There are two slight drawbacks to this workaround:
- If a user is logged on to Windows without Administrator
rights, the multimounter from Nero does not work correctly (but who
wants to use that feature anyway?).
- USB and FireWire drives are NOT recognized by this
WinASPI-driver, it can only be used for SCSI and IDE drives (which are
most PC-drives anyhow).

I tried both with no change. I do also have Virtual Drive, but I disabled it and still couldn't get Nero to see my writer.

I changed my TDK 12 10 32 to Plextors flash and my TDK Nero software would no longer work with the newly named Plextor.
I had to buy Nero retail and it now works like a charm.

I uninstalled Nero, and then downloaded the retial version from Nero's website. I still get the same error message. This sucks.

What do you suggest? I've got Easy CD Creator, but I'm trying to make VCDs and they don't work in my DVD player. If I make them in a different PC with Nero, they work fine.

problem is even though you uninstalled prev install of nero--it was not totally uninstalled completely. And for staters--it was stated somewhere in your lite-on manual or flyer that the nero cd (when you bought the liteon drive) you get from the liteon drive can not be used with any other drive beside lite-on.
The only thing to fix your nero probs is to either completely hunt down any leftover registry settings or fresh install (or backup-recovery).
I've used nero w/o any problems ever with both liteon , tdk and plextor drive. But then again I use the nero retail version.
