Nero and Easy CD Creator/DirectCD compatability?

Currently have a BackPack 4x4x24 external CD-RW, which came with EasyCD + DirectCD, and recently got a TDK 12x10x32 internal CD-RW.

Compatability... I have read of some people have had problems with EasyCD and Nero, what is the problem, and is/are there known incompatability with having two CD burning software packages on a PC (win98 + win2k).

And what of DirectCD compatability with Nero?

I have never used Acraptec, but, you are wise to ask. Nero has a lot of info about compatibility problems. At least Nero trys to help. They even have a way to "dual-boot" either to Nero or Acraptec. I believe the help is in a file on Nero's site called helpeng.exe?

Yes, the Adaptec software doesn't like to play nice with the other children. Head over to nero.com, and pick up the bootmenu utility they have, it will let you have both installed with no problems. Or just uninstall EZ Coaster Creator and be done with it. I don't bother with packet writing software anymore... Blank disks are so cheap that it's easier to use one than spend all that time reformating the more expensive rewritables.

Easy CD Creator and Nero will live with each other if you don't have Adaptec's Direct CD installed.

nah, all that is lies,
i currently have nero and easy cd creator and directcd install at the same time and use everything just fine. never had a problem.
the trick is to install nero first then easy cd creator and directcd.
everything works just fine. but if you want to install nero after easy cd creator and directcd it will ask you to stop installation and uninstall directcd and easy cd creator. it gives you the choice to continue with installation or stop installing nero. just say continue installing and everything still works just fine. i did all this for the past 4 computers that i have and still no problems. enjoy. if you need anything PM or email me. i'll be here

Neo is right. I installed Nero first and have never had a problem. Also, take DirectCD out of your startup menu..if you use it. Only enable it when you actually want to use it, this should minimize any conflicts if there are any to begin with. I haven't had any problems with Nero and Adaptec on the same system. I even use CloneCD, CDRWin, and Feurio all on the same system with no problems at all.

NeoMadHatter--LOL....yeah? You shoulda been around in the days of 3.*, when Acraptec wouldn't admit they had a compatibility problem. But, hey, they would monitor and spam the newsgroup with any positive info/help. Just wouldn't admit that there were any problems. I think every third post must've been about Acraptec problems.

BTW, you might also consider different systems may have different problems crop up, even though you've used them in 4 systems. Heck, that's not even a good representation of my group of pc's/OS's.

I have used Adeptec and Nero. Nero is excellent and my primary choice. I just can't figure out how to use it with CDRW's.... and cdrwin.... I could never get it to work...

Ronstang is correct. once I took out the ezcd (and a whole bunch of things) from the start menu with the system config I was able to use Hotburn, EzCD, Nero, CDRWin with no problem. not one coaster with the cheapest cdrw drive you can find. and I agree Adaptec doesn't like to play nice with others. Why in the world would you load a startup for a cdrw.
