I have Nero 6 OEM, which came with my optical drives, but I noticed that CompUSA has this newer version available for $40. But, looking at the features, I see nothing too compelling. It has Showtime, but so does Nero 6. However, it requires buying another plugin to use it, and I already have PowerDVD, which seems fine.

It has Media Home, which appears to have to do with viewing TV from a tuner, but I have WinTV200, so this doesn't seem terribly interesting. Nero 6 has this also, but when I opened it, it insisted on setting some folders for sharing, which I have no desire for, so I never got any farther with it.

What it comes down to, is that I see no added features that I want, and all that's left is whether there is something about the basic burning functions that would make it worthwhile? Can someone make a comparison for me?

I don't know if this sheds any light or not---but I recently downloaded a microsoft utility to see if my wife's computer was vista ready.
Hardware wise, it at least met vista minimum requirements---but there was quite a bit of software that needed to be updated to vista
versions. On the software list was nearly the entire Nero 6 OEM version as needing to be upgraded to a vista ready versions.

While I may advocate until I am blue in the face that its a nero responsibility to provide such upgrades to vista free of charge, I somehow
doubt nero would pay any attention to my opinions---and that their upgrade policy may be to charge. Nor for that matter am I sure that that
is the issue---but I am raising it as a possible explanation.---hopefully someone more knowledgeable about nero will come to clarify if my
hypothesis holds any water.

After Googling on this, it refreshed my memory that alot of people has had problems with it. Since I'm never going to install Vista, I don't think that there is any reason to spend the money.

MediaHome is for streaming to other computers from where you have Nero installed. Its like a media server from nero to share you audio, video and photos.

Nero 7 was complete garbage when I tried it. Nero 6 never gave me any issues, but Nero 7 completely locked up my drives on multiple ocassions and when I finally got fed up and uninstalled it, it completely wrecked the windows sound subsystem. The only fix for that mess-up was a complete reinstall of Windows.

Stick with 6.

I agree .. stay with Nero 6 Utra Edition 6.6.0.0
As to free upgrades from Nero .. if you bought the Ultra Suite
in a Retail Store it usually comes with Lifetime Free Upgrades
As to Nero 7 .. very bloated & has some skipping when doing audio cd's
Nero 6 did not have this problem ... you can verify this with a Google Search
