any advantage over the old 5.x.x.x versions?
yeah who wants to be a guinea pig?

nero 5.x works fine for me
I volunteered for that position out of curiosity... plus I like to see what's improved since Ahead is too lazy to provide screenshots for us wondering. Do note I did not test this for a long time, as I reverted back to 5.5, explained later.
* The button toolbar is now larger and can be rearranged by category (there are toolbar drag bars). That's a plus for me.
* While I have never bothered to test out Nero Express, the New Compilation window is better (some options that were radio buttons before are now drop-down menus). Labeling is now much much better, as it now remembers the previous label you've used before. This will make labeling multiple volume sets an easier task (such as archiving your multimedia, videos, mp3s, etc.). Saves me the trouble of the last volume number I used.
* Deleting files from compilation now prompts for confirmation. It's something I didn't like as I know what I want to put in anyway. Unsure if there's an option to disable this.
* The burning CD dialog no longer becomes a separate window but instead replaces the program GUI with its own. Unsure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. No opinion on this yet.
I think overall it's a good upgrade, if it works for you. Reason I say this is because when I tried to use it, it refused to work. The app runs fine up to the point when I tried to burn the compilation. I'd get an error saying that the 'drive is in use by another application', when I am positive that there are no applications running that would be using it in the first place. This also continue to happen after a reboot, just to make sure it is not something I may have ran before but forgot to exit. Because of this, I dumped Nero 6 and gone back to 5.5. So now I wonder when those morons at Ahead will get their butts in gear and fix that problem. Moral of the story? We all know that one... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
If Nero 6 works for your setup, by all means keep it. The GUI improvement is much needed, especially for the buttons. If you question if it'll work, you've nothing to fear. Your currently-working version of Nero will still run without giving you headaches.
