You should have no problems doing anything else while recording.

I've played 3d games while recording on my, rather less impressive, system.

SCSI drives have no problem recording with other programs running. IDE drives have the risk of a buffer underrun if you run other programs. Especially when burning MP3's.

Deeko is right, I have no problem running other programs while burning CDs. My setup is Plextor UltraPlex Wide and PlexWriter RW 4/2/20 with a Tekram DC-390F. If you have IDE setup, patience is a virture.

If your HP is a new one (8x4x32 or more), your setup can do it.

Give it a try you risk 30 cents.

I have zero problems with running other proggies while burning on my IDE setup. Having 4 IDE channels helps immensely though. I have 2 7200 rpm hard drives, each as master on a Promise Ultra 66. HP 8100i as primary master on IDE 1, Kenwood 72TrueX as master on IDE 2.

If copying from hard drive I put the contents on d drive, if doing a cd to cd burn it's no big deal since each are on separate IDE channels.

Last month I purchased the Plextor 12/10/32 IDE CD-R/W with "burn proof" technology and it's now sitting in my AMD Athlon 650/128/30 system. Unfortunately I have no idea how to burn CDs and don't wanna go through the hassle of reading the manual.

Can I download Nero 5.0, install it, pop in a blank CD-R and burn baby, burn?

Which of the following applications which came with my Plextor should I install?
Adaptec Easy CD Creator Standard Edition for Windows
Adaptec Direct CD for Windows
PlextorManager for Windows

The CD-ROM says revision 1.5 if that helps.

Plextor Manager is actually few applications. They are very intuitive you can do without reading. However you can not compile you own CD with Plextor manager, that why they give you EZ ?CD. EZ ? CD, and Nero are the same kind of applications, that do almost every thing you want to do with CDR & CDRW. The consensus is that Nero is better. In addition EZ ?CD does not like other programs, most independent burning program have problems with the Adaptec products (especially DirectCD). I would suggest loading Plextor Manager and Nero, and give it a try. You can always Uninstall Nero and load EZ-CD. No Manual reading - If you are a very knowledgeable user, the two are similar in difficulty, for a beginner EZ-CD is easier.

I also have the 12x10x32 Plextor Plexwriter with Burnproof technology and i'm wording since it has "burnproof" techonology then those that mean that i coupld play games with it with no problems?

Also I wanna try this Nero where do i get it? Is it downloadable or do i have to buy it 🙁

I have both Easy CD Creator 4.02 and Nero 5.0.1.8 installed on my system. I haven't experienced any issues with using Nero. I can't tell you if Easy CD Creator still works or not ... because, well, since going to Nero, I haven't looked back. Nero rocks!!

Nero really seems to "take a licking and keep on ticking". I've burned about 10 CDs in a row without any issues. However, if I were to have used Easy CD, I would have created a coaster on about the 4th disc -- and then had to resolve it by defragging my drives and re-booting my PC.

Burnproof, has nothing to do with copy protection. Burnproof, insures that if the Plextor is out of data it can halt the burning until the data flows again. Without Burnproof, you end up with a coaster.

In order to use Burnproof, both the Burner, and the Burning program has to be capable to use the technology. Plextor 12/10/32 is Burnproof able, and so is Nero5 (I don?t think that EZ-CD is).
