I refuse to believe that all of that equipment increases his productivity any more than half of it would, and that the money he has spent on the extra hardware and electricity is somehow less than the money he has lost by waiting on some process to finish. I might come close to believing it if it wasn't a home-bsaed business, but unless he works 12 hours a day, that's just plain ridiculous.

It's his office, he's a developer (contract) for high end 3d modeling tools.

He says he takes 3 months of vacation a year and has almost no contact with computers during those times.

Sounds like he probably gets out more than the rest of us.
 
I'd cry if that were my desk. Reminds me of the desks of the systems developers at work last year. Nightmare of clutter, poor lighting and drab office color scheme. Looks like this ones some time of cave...
