Alright, I have heard nothing but good stuff about this series and i am bored beyond my mind so i watched the series yesterday and today. I just finished the final episode... and i have to say that it was a monumental let down.

How can this be called one of the greatest Anime's ever?

I thought Asuka was kind of a dumb/pointless character and the whole thing just left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Oh well maybe im weird but the ending totally ruined it for me.

Depends on which ending you saw. End of Evangelion or Death and Rebirth.

I'm in the midst of watching the entire series, as my friend lent me the DVD box set (in preparation for when he gets the DVD movie), and it's pretty cool. It's not great......not the best I've seen, but it's still interesting. Above-par traditional scifi anime.

I loved the end of Eva, both the original series and the Air/Heart version. It's annoying how anyone who tries to do something different/experimental is trashed for it. Rather than just dismissing it, try to understand it first. It might surprise you what a powerful personal statement it really is.

eva is so overhyped imo.

just because it's a gateway anime for lots of people it gets touted as one of the best anime series. blah

just because lots of people like it and keep screaming how it's good and how it's deep and has magical philosophical messages, lessons, and crap.

too each their own. i love it how most eva fans get all patronizing and start insulting you when you say you don't like eva. yes, we don't appreciate the sociological rantings/messages of a guy with mental issues, boohoo. :)

if you liked eva, fine. remember not everyone has to like it and go watch other stuff out there. what the heck, you might even find something you like more. :p

/rant mode off

Isn't Robotech the bastardized series where the american distributor combined three separate, completely unrelated anime-series (Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada)?

I wouldn't say it sucked, but from all the hype it was kind of a let down. Maybe it was too deep and I didn't understand it fully. I had to go online and read up on it after I watched the entire thing one weekend. My mind was sooo fried by the way...

And yeah... it's all about INITIAL D!!! With Evangelion... it felt so tedious watching all the episodes over one weekend, but with INITIAL D, I couldn't pull myself away. Any dirt on the fourth stage? And I hear a live action movie is in production! With Andy Lau as Takumi's father. Isn't that nuts?!

How about this oooolllld one, "Saint Seiya"!!!

I was disappointed the first time I saw it. I actually liked most of the series, but the ending pissed me off. I never thought the series was deep, the message seemed painfully obvious, but the ending went off the deep end in trying to get the message home. But after watching it again, I have to say I like it. Even the freaky ending. I'm looking forward to the U.S. DVD release of End of Evangelion this week.

The feeling I got from the last two episodes of Eva was similar to how I felt watching the last 15 minutes of 2001: A Space Odyssey. And interestingly, both Eva and 2001 seems to provoke similar reactions from a certain percentage of people.

God, the Escaflowne movie sucked hard IMO, but I do like the series...

Watched a few episodes (liek first 6 or so), and couldn't stand it. Refuse to even try and watch anymore. It was boring, with a horribly annoying main character. The "fighting" (which isnt' that great either) couldn't save it for me. But it's all personally tastes I guests..

although...

I don't know anyone that dind't like Rurouni Kenshin. ^_^x

I watched it earlier this summer.... I liked it. It was my first time to watch a mega-anime.... the only other thing I'd really watched before was Princess Mononoke. I had mixed feelings about the end of Evangelion.... I liked the psychological issues but I wished that there was an 'ending' that would be satisfying plot-wise. The movie is kind of cool, but still not what I really wanted from the ending. I think that they should have made about 4 more episodes, and that would have been enough to get everything said that needed to be said...
