Neo Setup Info
Grab the newest client from here http://www.theneoproject.com/dloads.html
The newest client is 1.0.517 It?s a windows only client. Supposedly a linux version should be out soon. Proxy support is also in the works.
The install program is very easy to go through. Once you have it installed, open the program up. There are two settings windows that you must go through.
The user information window is fairly basic. Your email address, name, and team name are VERY important to get right if you have multiple clients. Make sure you use the same email address on all of your clients. Also, the name field is your name that shows up in the stats. Feel free to use a nickname. And finally, the most important part. For the Team name field, spell out Team Anandtech, and spell it right The rest is optional and basic.
Next window is the preferences window. I?ll do my best to explain this. The cpu usage options are pretty important. I personally move mine to 100% of idle processes. Anyone reading this probably has experience with dc projects, so I?ll let you figure out the slider and 3 settings. I?ll just say that the NEO client is very good about stepping out of the way when necessary.
For your connectivity options, you usually want to leave the first box unchecked unless you are on dialup. You can then leave everything else unchecked, and simply click on send when you are connected. LAN users should only check the very last box, and put in a higher number, such as 50 or 100 or perhaps a little higher. You don?t want your client to try to connect to the servers after each point.
Big note here? do NOT EVER check the hide system tray icon button. It will mess up the ability to save neo configurations, and you will probably never see the neo interface again without an install. This is a very flaky option and has a mind of its own.
Click on update, and yer up and running!
Now a few notes about the actual running client window. It should display your usder ID (name), the team name, etc. The total units completed is how many units have been turned in under your username. It gets updated when you connect to the server. Your queue is how many points you have to send in still on the client. They are already completed, and just waiting to be turned in. The next unit completed line is the total of units that just that client has done.
Now, if you want to run the project as a service, you?ll need to download firedaemon from http://www.firedaemon.com Get lite version of 1.5.1 Install, and open the program. Click on new service, give it a name, do the directory, etc. Once you get it started as a service, you must open up the services window in admin tools. Right click on the service you?ve made and go to properties, then click on the logon tab. You should run your neo service under administrator. Its important for your settings to hold. If you ever need to change settings, simply stop the service in admin tools, open the program manually, and change what you want. Close the program and restart the service.
To have neo start automatically, simply put it in your startup folder. Post any questions!
