Maybe this is stupid and ignorance..I am currently using realtek nic...gigabit vs nvidia nic...is one better

also I never setup the nvidia network manager software and hardware firewall should I..I use a netgear router that has SPI/NAT already and I have stealthed the only open port as per I think Steve gibson's site

They only real advantage the nV has that I can think of is that it isn't on the PCI bus.

It has a direct connection into the NB, so you can get full bandwidth from the NIC.
The Realtek is hooked into the PCI bus, so even though it is Gigabit, you are limited to PCI bus bandwidth. (something like 133mbps max? I forget...)

Just use the nvidia one... 🙂

PClark 99...I am confused in my BIOS it says nvidia MAC LAN and onboard gigalan..which did you disable

right now I am using the nvidia port with winxp disable realtek gigalan..I will say I think there is no difference I can tell
