Amazing song, and an amazing guy. He seems like quite a crowd pleaser too. I know Neil Young is one of the "greats", but even though I have heard some of his songs before, I have never heard of his name until I recently heard this song on the radio.

What song do you consider to be one of the greatest?

I'm not getting into a "greatest song ever" debate but I do think Needle and the Damage Done is a better.

One thing I have noticed is that he has a unique voice, and it can only really sound great on certain songs.

Neil Young is one of the greats, for sure.

Cinnnamon Girl is one of my personal favorites.

don't know about "best" but the MESSAGE in the words to this song are a good environmentalist alarm:

After The Gold Rush

Well, I dreamed I saw the silver
Space ships flying
In the yellow haze of the sun,
There were children crying
And colors flying
All around the chosen ones.
All in a dream, all in a dream
The loading had begun.
They were flying Mother Nature's
Silver seed to a new home in the sun.
Flying Mother Nature's
Silver seed to a new home.

It's a great song from a Legendary artist. What's truly impressive about that song to me is how it conveys deep emotion with such few words.

I'd have a hard time whittling my favorite examples of songwriting down to 100 let alone to one.

Elvis Costello, Aimee Mann, Richard Thompson, Tori Amos, Grant-Lee Phillips, Kate Bush, Tom Waits, . . . so many great songs.
