so a couple weeks ago, i posted up seeking advice on how to set up my temporary network. long story short, i pay my neighbor to use his wireless on my pc.. (legally not neccessary as he rocks unsecured, but i feel a helluva lot better about it)

so basically, i've got a usb receiver that is set to dchp to go online. i've also got a line running from my local connection to a network switch that's plugged into my 360 and my xbox running xbmc. problem is, i can't have both connections enabled at the same time.. wondering if it could be due to the wireless being firewalled while the wired isn't? who knows... working past that..

today i picked up a wrt54g with the hopes of turning it into an access point of sorts that will also allow my local network to run properly (and at the same time) but the ah heck of it is that i cannot get this thing working properly for the life of me.. can someone please lend a hand here?

basically, i need it to see his network via dchp yet allow my network to be run static.. someone please tell me this is possible..?

nothing?

i did a ton of reading last night (14 pages searching access point) but everything i found talked about elzen's guide which involved connecting the two routers physically via patch cord. i tried the methods described for giggles, but nada...

also, my wrt54g is version 8.. tried ddr-wt and it won't load the firmware.. get a failure message

thanks for the info! i was kinda hoping you'd find this, as you're the one who was giving all the answers in the threads i was diggin thru last night. haha

i think my old roommate still has my older wrt54g, and i think that was a version 4 or something.. maybe even older. if he's still go tit, i'll swap routers with him and give dd-wrt a shot. but if not, i'm gonna guess that i don't even need the router? i've got a 5 port switch that i'm gonna assume i can plug into the bridge you linked to?
