If I had been around and seen that dog kill Ralph you can bet I would have killed that dog on the spot with my bare hands. I would have grabbed it by the back by its fur lifed it over my head ignoring any pain from bites and slammed it on the street and then stomped it dead. I am very upset and angry still. I constantly think about my cat in that dogs mouth screaming.
Oh, man. :( :( :(

Edit: To Ralph!

Gone where no dog can ever harm him.

Oh give me a break...cat's can be outside...then again...I grew up where I didn't treat my pets like little bitches. They knew how to take care of themselves.

I would watch for the dog to come back onto your property. By merely being on your property, I consider this dog a threat to you, your family, and your pets...
I would kill it.
baseball bat, crossbow, whatever gets the job done without being illegal.

Cat's can live 15 years pretty average for domestic cat when you factor out death from unatural causes and as long as 24 years I believe have been documented and even older. That is a long time to get attached to a cat and up to 2-3x older than dogs. Ralph was seven years old when he was killed. "It is just a cat" mentality is no longer acceptable and it is the responsibility of the dogs owner to recognize his dogs temperment and take corrective measures. Revenge; well call it whatever you want but compensation is due and as I have already said I have already instructed the lawyer to drop the case if the owner will have his dog euthanized so money isnt the issue. I want my peace of mind back. Someone always likes to blame the victum. I am not at fault in the least bit by law. Dogs are controlled for a reason... The dog entered my garage for gods sake. Btw, he has seen the pictures and his response was to call the police and complain, because I gave the neighbors flyers so they could see what his negligence did and protect their pets and kids from them dogs and be on the lookout. He should have come and apologized a while ago but like I said pleaded not guilty. Police basically said too bad to him.

I will provide a link later tonight or tommorrow when I get a chance.

While I really don't agree with the whole suing thing, I think it's going to be needed while he pleaded Not Guilty. That's just stupidity there.

I miss my cat =(, someone left Antifreeze outside for my cat *cough*, came home barely able to walk and had to be put down to stop the pain of the cat.

Wow, that was a bit insensitive.

If something is in your family 7-8 years, and you interact with it everyday, its a part of your family. If a part of your family is killed injured or what not, you want justice period.

All the OP wants is the comfort that this dog will not attack anything ever again, and i would want the same.

Are there leash laws where you live? Considering the cat was killed in the OP's garage tells me that he is totally in line here.

My friend's dog used to kill cats that came on his property, but that was justified since the dog stayed in his yard while the cats were trespassing.

In the OP's case, the dog is trespassed, so he can kill the dog if it winds up in his garage.

for your next pet, I suggest a cat that only lives in doors, or a gerbil

That's fine, I'm certainly not in any position to force you to do anything, I only hope you realize how over your head you can end up in the legal system, before you actually reach that point.

I do have a question though if you'd be so kind as to answer it(since you have ignored it so far); why won't you talk to your neighbor? From my perspective, I am not understanding why you haven't at least tried. Has something gone on that you haven't mentioned?

Unfortunately, the law doesn't allow you to shoot people who refuse to make good on debts. Suing is the only recourse.

The OP was forced to sue because the dog owner did not do the right thing. Years ago, I had a couple of watch dogs that got out and mauled a pig.
Naturally I accepted total responsibility, secured my yard better, and went to the livestock auction with my own truck to get a replacement animal. Nobody had to tell me what was the right thing to do.

Obviously this owner is an idiot for letting an aggressive dog loose so first I would have weapons around to beat the dog to death if you see anything like this happen again. If in town don't use gun, if outside city limits a 12 gauge w/ bird shot will do wonders on his mid torso.

I hate aggressive dogs running loose and their owners so much as I have seen 2 dogs maul 2 little dogs and their is no excuse for this.

Even if you sue this loser there isn't much you could get out of him unless maybe you talk to a lawyer and see is maybe his homeowners insurance could be liable?

What kind of dog was it?

Ohh and sorry for the way you had to lose your cat, that is downright horrible.

For a second I thought it said "...cat killed dog..." and I was thinking "That's one vicious kitty."

But after a second read, I'm really sorry :(

I think the dog could be rehabilitated, since it is obviously neglected and probably abused-I don't believe it should be destroyed because it killed your cat.

yup, instead of suing he could have called Cesar Millan the Dog Whisperer, and become famous on TV, haha

This isn't funny lad. You're talking about killing a dog because it killed a cat without knowing the attributes and value of the dog (besides the intrinsic one of being more human).

Nothing illegal about defending your property with a baseball bat, same net effect as a 22 on an attacking dog.

That's a shame, I grew up with two of those (and two cats). The only living thing they ever got violent with was me, when I was 4 and tried to ride them :)

You might wanna call a lawyer and ask if you have any recourse. They might take it on a contingency if there's a decent amt of money to be had. It's not going to replace your pet, but it will send a message to the owner that they need to take more responsibility. Sorry for your loss.

I'm with you. I can't explain the rage I've had against some of the dogs (mainly owners) around here.

Let me get this straight. Please correct me if i am wrong.

1: You own 3 cats.

2: One of your cats, while out in the neighborhood got killed by a dog.

3: Subsequently, you allowed one of your other cats to roam the neighborhood, knowing full well that it is dangerous.

4: Later, you are surprised and outraged that the dog pursued your roaming, terrorized cat into your garage where it would naturally seek refuge from the dog.

5: You take the moral high ground, deny any responsibility and start a slandering campaign against the dog owner by sticking posters all over the neighborhood.

6: You start legal action against the dog owner.

Here is a simple solution to your problem:

1: KEEP YOUR CATS INSIDE

2: He should keep his dogs contained.

3: Purchase replacement cat, KEEP INSIDE.

4: Resume life.

Note: Even if the dog owner does not contain the dogs, all your troubles are over if you keep your cats INSIDE.
