Please don't have the dog put down, it does not know it is doing wrong - all it knows is you are male and you are near it's territory.

She needs to get control of the dog. Regardless of what it thinks of you it should do what it is told. Is it a young dog? Maybe it can still be trained.

On a more serious note,
I'd request that the neighbors make sure the dog is either tied up or it cannot leave their property. If you have kids over and something like that happens, it's YOUR liability.

Greetings to all good friends!

First I say, I make this commentary not about the bad dog. I am sorry if this is against protocols, I just say hello my old friends, ok?

There is much honor and I feel good and humble and I send thanks to my friends from ATOT posting place. I have made advancement in work and all is good. I spend much time in Latvia in past months (many), and some time went also Moscow, I saw family too, some Aunt was since I was boy (she sister of my father, who was steam engineer at Atomic Station of Chernobyl). He (father) was working after calamity at Atomic Station and made ill quickly and died. I very young, and have not visit this Aunt since before Chernobyl calamity. We cry (me too, ok), but good feelings crying, so that ok.

I still hoping I have the interview someday with the x-prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko. She has party now and oppose to the President Viktor Ushenko. She still my fantasy for late evening-after work interview. Wow!

I have good story for all of spooky radiation walking-doll recovered from Pripyat - this city where all workers from Atomic Station lived. This is evil doll they almost sell in United States, but then I think they change mind for bad luck. I live there (Pripyat) as young boy before we move Kiev. I tell later, work is strong, I try come back to friends tomorrow. We leave tonight again, so maybe is tomorrow I hope, ok?

My friends, thank you!!

Be brave all!

Edit: My dad did this with a neighbor dog that would bark aggressively at us kids and scare us. After a while as soon as the dog saw my dad with that squirt gun it shut up and started walking the other direction. Pretty soon the dog figured things out and quit barking at us.

The best vinegar can be found by draining it from a gallon can of jalepeno peppers.

I find it amusing. Has anyone ever really had a lawyer? A better question might be could anyone here really afford one?

Litigate it yourself, try other types of resolution, then if no resolution can be accomplished and the lawyer can be paid without great hardship, get one.

of course, everyone here is rich and successful. didn't you know that?

A taller fence doesn't seem like an unreasonable request, but maybe it would help if the dog's owners taught him that you're "OK"? Dogs are supposed to be smart, right?

It wouldn't be too difficult if it's not too old. Basically she needs to get it on its back, mount it and snarl back at it, and even bite at the fur around the neck (with someone watching for her safety).

Sure it looks crazy, but being a german shepard it likely has a lot of alpha in it, that needs to be defeated/trained out. You have to follow some of the same rules as dogs normally do in pack behavior, and presenting yourself as dominant is extremely important with large and powerful dogs like shepards.

I agree that requesting a taller fence be built, and perhaps tethering the animal are totally reasonable. How would it be OP's responsibility if the dog got out? Wouldn't it be the neighbors considering the animal is their responsibility.

the neighbors are lucky their dog bit somebody who isnt going to call the cops. I wouldnt ask them but demand they put up a taller fence. next time it may be a kid who gets mauled.

if they not put up a taller wood picket fence to protect the public from their dog then they are irresponsible pet owners and deserve to loose the dog.

I would go with the electric fence. A taller one wouldn't be a problem if the dog really wanted to jump over it. My lab can jump into the back of a truck with the tailgate up, so I'm sure a big german shepherd could jump as high.

Wow. I wonder where the mods are? If this guy wasn't a foreigner I wonder if they would be tolerating this?

Pretty disgusting.

Since that one went right over your head I'd say it's time you watch some Borat.

If Vladimir were named Aaron, and Jewish, and someone made some kind of Borat joke about Jews and cockroaches you bet your ___ that the mods would be all over it.

Curious that Vladimir, who seems to never have ever said a mean thing to anyone (I took another poster's advice and looked up his old posts on his previous accoung), gets a totally innocuous thread locked, while Mr. Neovan can make jokes that Vladimir is unlikely to understand about his "whore" sister.

Real nice.

well if the dog was able to bite you without jumping the fence, how close were you to it? And has he ever jumped the fence?

While I agree the dog shouldn't have bitten you, it seems as though it was a misunderstanding. The dog was probably very territorial and felt you were threatening him. Nevertheless, you want to make sure that steps are taken to protect your family as well as the dog.

Maybe, if you are on good terms with the neighbor, you could offer to help them install a higher fence some weekend? This could be advantageous to you as well, if you're interested in fencing your yard in, you might be able to get matching fence. Everyone would benefit - you would enjoy the added safety and your neighbors would save a considerable amount of money by doing the project themselves.

Either way I would just bring it up casually (ie don't all out confront them about it). The last thing you want is to offend them, which would make it really hard to get a taller fence installed by them willingly.

I wouldnt have enough room to squeeze by a nail without being right up against the fence, and this dog is big and can jump, i wouldnt trust the vinegar :)

As far as funboy and others saying it needs to be put down. This dog is not normally aggressive as faras we can see.... out front on a leash he is a puppy dog, and the neighbors take him to doggy day care each day rather than leave them at home. I think the issue is that the other dog taught him that its ok to bark and defend the back yard.

I already spoke with the neighbor. I plan on following this through, but if the dog got loose in the meantime I would not feel guilty at all, as I had reported it to the neighbors, and it was a unique situation.

First of all, is your tetanus shot current? MOST docs will recommend one if your last one was less than 5 yrs ago, although they're SUPPOSED to be good for 10 years. Definitely see a doc for this, and get it documented. Next, report it to your local police/animal control. Let THEM verify that the animal's vaccinations are current, and hav it tested for rabies (at the owner's expense) just to be sure. Taller fence? Sure, but keep in mind, most cities have laws that regulate the height of fences, so it MAY not be workable option. The owner is responsible for maintaining control of his/her animals, and obviously, in this case, they have not done so. I'd dammed sure NOT tolerate a dog that bites, family, neighbor on HIS property, etc. Having the dog put down may be the best option.

God forbid he should offend them because they certainly didn't offend OP by letting their evil psycho dog put a hole in him.

He reached at least 1-1.5 feet over to grab me... That area i am trapped between the garage and their fence, and I have every right to be near the fence.

My fence and their fence is already fenced in with a 3' chainlink fence

I'm not worried about offending them, their dog bit me, and I am being very fair in the way I am handling this.
