Neighbor's barking dog, what to do?

We have a neighbor across the road from us; since day one their dog barks all the time, the owner is never home and the dog is placed in a cage outside of their trailer. When I yell out the window to tell it to quiet down it works. Yesterday, he hooks up an igloo house for a new huskee that it has. It barks even louder and does not respond to the yelling.

I'm very tempted to contact animal control; I don't know the neighbor that well however I have provided him with cut wood from some of our trees- that is the only interaction that I've had with him.

Should I talk to him first (When he's actually home) or call animal control?

The dogs bark because they are lonely. Talk to him about it. He won't do anything because people that abuse animals like that aren't the brightest. But, you tried. Then call animal control and they will fine him then take the dogs if they keep it up.

I can try talking to him, I'm just afraid that if I do that, then call AC, fine him then he's angry at me and who knows that could happen. I'd much rather have him take care of the dogs properly but I'm not sure that will happen as when he's home he yells at them to be quiet as well.

Chances are he's going to figure that out anyway. Just call AC and let them deal with him.

I have a neighbor that leaves her yappy little dog out all the time, and it yaps non-stop. I found her phone number on Google, and called her at 4am (*67 FTW!) to tell her the dog was making too much noise. Dog hasn't been out all night since. 🙂

You can turn the other cheek...

Talk to the guy, kindly express your concern and offer to try and help out. Have him introduce you to the dogs, see if he's comfortable letting you play with them while he's gone and they're barking. This serves two purposes, the dogs get the attention they deserve, and you get the sunlight most posters on here probably need... Really if you work it right it would be like having two free pets without having to clean up their shit or buy food. Either the neighbor will be cool and you'll have another friend, or he'll be a dick and you'll know you did everything you could before calling animal control. If he's mad at you then, who cares, he's a dick.

Thinking this may help out my situation!!!! I like it!!!!

1. Talk to your neighbor. Maybe he doesn't realize that his dogs are barking when he's not there. Doing stuff like calling the cops/animal control on your neighbors without talking to them first just comes across as really passive aggressive.

2. If that doesn't produce results, call animal control. You have a right to peace and quiet in your own home. If the guy won't give his dogs the care and attention that they need to not bark all day, they should probably be taken away.

I can't believe this is actually a question. Talk to your neighbor or go straight to the Government... hmmmm
