<--- I love cats, but there are two sides to every story.
Two sides huh...sounds like a cop out. So, what pray tell do you think is missing from the story that makes it ok for the guy to have this ladies cat killed?
How do you know the guy had the cat killed? At many shelters, it's simply a matter of policy that after a couple of days they euthanize cats that haven't been adopted. They simply can't hang on to every cat until they find a home for it. The cat was put down 2 days later, not the same day the guy took the cat to the shelter. While he may have been hoping the lady wouldn't have thought of looking at the shelter for her cat in time to save it, that's not a crime.
Have you ever heard to a shelter that kills after 2 days? I sure haven't, I think 2 weeks is the least I've heard of. How the hell would anyone expect to get an animal adopted in 2 days? Considering most adoptions occur on the weekends, and every time we've adopted an animal it took like a week of paper work and crap. I think its more likely he brought it in and asked it to be euthanized, but the article doesn't say. At the very least, he knew what he was doing and what would likely happen if it was a 2 day kill shelter or something.
Thats not a crime though? C'mon...whether it is or isn't, it certainly isn't the right thing to do.
I didn't say the guy wasn't a douchebag... I agree that he is.
However, I googled "cats are euthanized after"... although I only had a few hits for that search phrase, the consensus was THREE days, not 2 weeks. Simply, a higher percentage of dogs are adopted than cats. And, generally there are far more stray cats than stray dogs. As someone above stated, many shelters will no longer respond to reports of stray cats... they simply can't handle the volume and time required.
