would you rather his yard become overgrown and like a jungle with snakes and rats spilling over into your yard?

ya the smoke can be annoying, but hes just doing yard work. not like hes doing it just to ba an asshole.

If there are snakes, there probably wouldnt be rats now would there...

considering they wouldnt be there without a source of food.....

funny how my neighbor behind me let his stuff grow up wildly last summer and i and another neighbor killed a few snakes. i also found some mouse droppings to go along with the mice i would see in my shed, which happened to be 1' away from the fence i shared with him....

If he has a permit, it's perfectly legal.

If you don't like it, call the fire department. You can do it anonymously.

They'll ask him for his permit, and if he doesen't have one, or it's simply illegal, put it out and probably issue a fine.

and i'm not gonna call the fire dept - he'd find out i called and i don't wanna start a feud.

I didn't know there was clean air in new york:confused:. just ask your neighbor if the next time he needs to burn brush if he'll wait until the wind isn't blowing over your house, most people (in Texas anyway) are more than happy to oblige.

hahaha it infringes on my clean air

what next, coming on ATOT to whine about someone's car exhaust infringing on your clean air?

The typical emissions from an automobile is one thing... but have you ever seen what comes out of a brush fire?

That could easily make your whole house smell like sh!t, even with the windows closed!

My gf's best friend had a bonfire one Thanksgiving, she's so smart that she accidently burned some poison ivy. Probably wasn't much since no one else had any reactions but my gf who is extremely sensitive to it had a puffy face for a few days.

i knew a guy that burned poison ivy, he breathed in the smoke and got poison ivy in his lungs. seriously, he had to go to the hospital to have it taken care of.

I hope it's the tree huggers who saddled us with this damn E-Check crap, who are suffering the most from not being allowed to burn. It's because of pollution concerns that we're not allowed to burn here in our city. I've got a TON of branches I'd love to burn. It would be a helluva lot easier than cutting and bundling the damn things, but we've got these rules in place

I can get a permit for a wienie roast, but that's a bit of a hassle. In the end, I'm kind of glad we have the rule. Some people are REALLY inconsiderate as far as what they would burn. I'd never burn green leaves and branches, because that would choke out my neighbors. But, I'm sure the ditz next to me wouldn't think twice about burning garbage along with green leaves and worse. It's too bad I can't burn a pile of dried up branches, but it's good my neighbor can't burn trash. I don't see any reason your neighbor should skate on an ordinance you have to abide by.

Are you sure it's because of pollution concerns that you aren't allowed to burn? That seems incredibly obsurd.

Around here, we can burn with a permit.. but I think it's simply because it's a fire danger. You're supposed to do it on cool, damp days if possible, when there is no discernable wind, etc...

Years ago, when it was first instituted, I heard it was pollution driven, because it came at the same time as our E-Check BS. However, the current ordinance reads like so:

Open Burning
  • Burning trash, brush, or leaves is not permitted in the City of Mentor. Small, attended campfires for cooking purposes are permitted during favorable weather conditions without prior approval. Bonfires require prior approval of the Fire Prevention Bureau by calling 974-57...
I heard there was a push to get small engine manufacturers to meet polution standards. Not sure how far that got. The 2-cycle engine are the biggest offenders.

Don't worry, The tree huggers are not letting up:

Log Burning Fireplaces Banned In Berkeley
  • The Berkeley City Council has voted to ban the fireplaces from all new homes and is requiring new restaurants using wood-burning ovens and grills to install pollution-control equipment.

OMG....will that F'ing state just fall in the ocean already!!!:|
